That's why nobody respects Jones as a person.

Its shit like this that makes me dislike Jon Jones's personality. Absolutely amazing fighter though. Its too bad. Cowboy seems like a cool dude. It looks like Jones has problems playing well with others at camp.

I wasn't happy the JBJ's decision to let the event die, but I can also understand the ramifications of taking and possibly losing a fight where your opponent has everything to gain and you have everything to lose. It was incredibly short notice, and Jon Jones is an incredibly young champion who's still developing. Give Jon Jones a break already, I think people seem to forget how hard it is to be mentally prepared at 24. He won't make the same mistake again, and life is all about learning from your mistakes.

How could anyone be a fan of Jones (his personality). The guy comes across poorly 100% of the time. |

I saw this interview and it didn't seem quite so black and white as the quote, though to be clear he did say exactly that. Perhaps it was more a summation of the convo. That said I fully agree with Cerrone and love his attitude. |

I'm giving Jon the benefit of the doubt that he didn't say this smugly but rather in jest to a friend...

nhb/ufc used to be about fights. now mma is a sport with pro athletes and its about money and a sport.
whjy is anyone suprised about jones' comments. He is probably one of the best athletes I have ever seen in my life; but he is not a "fighter" IMO. flame me, vote me down, i dont care..he is the lebron james of mma, more athletic and bigger/longer than anyone else. not even fun to watch sometimes. |

beanouno - If I made a million a fight I'd fight as much as I can.Until you get caught after taking a fight that you weren't prepared for. Then they stop paying you $1,000,000 pretty quickly.

Tru - Im as old school as anyone here, I miss Pride but not everything about it. NHB/UFC also used to have guys who couldnt "figt" very well and came in out of shape and under-prepared. Jones comes to "fight" every time. Just because he's not willing to risk a big set back in his career in a nothing to gain/everything to lose scenario on short notice doesnt mean he's not a "fighter." He's had one of the very best list of opposition of out any fighter over the last 2 years and been one of the most active of the champs/top fighters. Are Machida and Shogun also not "fighters" since they turned Jones down on short notice? There is nothing "not fighter'ish" about wanting proper time to prepare for your opponent so you will be fully prepared to "fight" come event time. And Im super tired of the "more athletic and bigger/longer than anyone else" thing. It is dam fun to watch some as creative and as good as Jones in every facet of the game and to continue finishing guys. We've seen plenty of bigger and longer guys never come close to developing the game and that Jones has. |

Then they stop paying you $1,000,000 pretty quickly. Not really. You don't think Dana would appreciate that chance you took and reward you with another title shot? And you don't think the rematch would do huuuuuge numbers? |

Jones is 100% correct-- The vast majority of criticism Jones receives is from fighters who haven't reached the pinnacle of the sport-- That's a shame--those so eager to push Jones into a short-notice fight may someday be in his position too. Short sited. |

People also need to remember, however Jones responded, Cerrone is the one who called out his teammate in public on this first. If Jones would have done the same to one of his teammates, just imagine the spazz.... And as far as Cerrone fighting every f*cking fight with his heart, good for him, no one doubts his toughness but when's the last time Jones just cruised and dialled it in? Who did he not finish? Rashad, who else? I also dont see fighting with heart every time and wanting proper time to prepare for an opponent as mutually exclusive. Cerrone may have fought with all his heart vs Nate but didnt exactly fight with all his brains and he didnt look so great that fight (in a fight he imo could have done much better in). |

Macedawgg - Im not particularly an admirer of Jones the UFC personality, Im a big fan of Jones the UFC fighter so i really dont care to TMZ everything he says. And yes, its really easy to criticize when you have not been in a position like this. Same goes for criticizing Dana, though makes himself an easy target, which could be the same for Jones, not everyone can relate to running the UFC. |
