That's true, he was billed as a con artist by some people because of his circus and s&m background, but I think he was just a smart showman who knew how to market Satanism in the psychedelic, new age 60's. I do think that he had a chip on his shoulder with God though, despite the claim that Satanism is a spiritual form of Atheism.

Are you asking about broadcasting in the US? Cuz that's primarily what I'm referring to. The medias affect is somewhat similar in Western Europe but mainly in the UK.

In the US the medias hold of the publics psyche began around the end of WW2

Around the 1950s you see the giant push of Pop Culture. Before the 50's american culture was not dictated by pop culture or consumer products.
