I met a guy who said he WAS Rorion Gracie. He'd seen lethal weapon and looked Italian so I think he was legit.

Andersons_Chin - How DO you pronounce Rorion? I'm guessing it's pronounced Hohion? |

Does anyone have actual videos of Gracie challenges where the fights really are all-out, anything goes? |

Renzo had a series of tapes with home video type footage of fights, his brother bites someone's ear off in one fight, that is pretty much "all out" |

That was the late Ryan, and it was outside in a dirt parking lot. |

I can pick any subject, pick a past event that happend in that niche.... study it.... then claim I was somehow involved and you will absolutely 100% believe me because I can name every fact that happened in a manner that implies I was there. no, unless someone reputable backs his claim with evidence it will always be considered bullshit by anyone who is not a sucker. |

Ronin_jutsuka -SonofJockstrap -I had read in Jiu Jitsu Magazine, a couple months back, that the challenge was a real thing. I am thinking it was an interview with Pedro Sauer. He was saying that everyone would back down once they found out they had to put $10,000 on the line to win the 100k. the Gracie challenge was real... http://stickgrappler.tripod.com/bjj/bad.html |

Some truth. More revisionist history though. There was probably one reason or another why it never happened and that turned into "Rorion ducked me". |

AnakinHelwani - A fb friend posted this fight on my page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlVJ0nnniTM&sns=fb I saw this fight live. I'm standing right next to the guy with the camera and say something like "there ya go" after Joe takes his back. The gracie challenger was a cocky karate bb who thought the strategy to defeat bjj was to get the ko while the gracie fighter "closed the distance" for the clinch. The dude's gf was watching from outside the room through the window and was screaming with every thump. The dudes mgr eventually threw in the towel. They gave the dude another chance after his first beat down. He chose Mark Baurmeister for his second try and Mark jabbed the dude in the nose a few times and then he quit. I can remember Mark being pissed that the dude quit. I can also remember the instructors that did not get picked to fight being pissed...lol Most the challengers were amateur level black belts with zero bjj experience and they would show up thinking they had the formula to beat the Gracies. Rorion would line up his blue and purple belts from his instructors program and let the gracie challenger choose which instructor they wanted to fight. Most of the gracie instructors were hungry to fight and test there skills. If a pro level fighter showed up or someone possibly good, royce stepped up and fought. While I was there 95-97, Royce fought two challenge matches; interestingly, he fought nogi vale tudo style. He won both fights without taking any damage or damaging his opponent. He mounted and bitch slapped them to submission. |

IIRC, the only 'ducking' of the Gracie Challenge was when the Gracies learned that Benny had been training submission grappling for many years, and had misrepresented his skillset when making the wager. Personally, I don't consider that to be ducking. That's just being smart with your money.
Reminds me of drag racing for pinks. Everybody wants to set the terms of the race in way that they feel gives them an advantage. When each side is aware of what the other is running, the race doesn't happen, and the claims of 'ducking' or 'chicken' start to be thrown around in an attempt to goad the other side in to a disadvantageous confrontation.
