twizzle97 - I am not sure why so many are focusing on what will happen to the perpetrators. Hopefully, they will get what they deserve, considering what they did was beyond horrid. Great post. Voted up... |

DAVID H -cheesesteak -antifret - Oh come on. How about a 6'8" bjj trained accountant lifer who enjoys hurting people who wants to go into solitary as he can't stand being around all the uneducated jail birds versus his roomie a 150 lb Mexican coke dealer gangster whose never fought one on one. Figure gang member gets choked to death. Killer instinct is possessed by a lot more people than hardened criminals is my point. And martial arts skills do factor in when its one on one. Again you are discounting the dehumanizing effect prison probably has on people. They did experiments with normal folks (Stanford Prison Experiment) and they acted in a similar matter. Anyone can act like that given the circumstances. |

Why do you keep bringing up color? What's the point in that?
Also, if your statements here reflect how you normally process information, you're a terrible academic and at best, a mediocre researcher. Or you work in a field where critical thinking is not required to perform your job. |

The fact that if it was legal people would start stabbing every gang member they see. The soldiers also did not become killing machines when drafted and a lot of them were mentally broken by it. Also the Stanford Experiment was extremely biased and it was the people with the power that turned not the prisoners so it's not really applicable to this. |

First of all it is that short sightedness that gives the criminal a huge advantage as he simply does not give a fuck and has nothing to lose. Your intelectual who is aspiring to bigger and better things in life wants no part of troublle and has shunded violence away all his life. He would not be able to know how to react in a raw violent situation like the criminal would. And NO I do not think that a librarian would would slit a convicts throat for $1000. I had a friend who was a librarian and this guy would probably cry thinking aout a poor fly that got swatted. Look my friend I think what you are talking about may be some rough and tumble intellectuals who are out there. Many of which exist in the UFC. But they are not the norm. You seem not to be of the norm as you seem to be an acedemic type who has been in many street fights and might not be scared to lose what you have going for you. You are rare in within that class of person. Many acedemics and intellectuals I have trained with in the past are good technicians on the mat and critical thinkers. But just about all of them want no part in real world violence. For the most part they would run from a violent situation if they saw the opening and that is being smart! But these thug criminals think differently, they think in a way as you say short sighted...They would rather kill you and bask in the enjoyment of doing so without thinking of what happens to them in the future. The intellectual is to scared of getting in trouble, loosing his job, family etc...You comprende Cholo? |

Just sociopaths, redneck vigilantes , etc. plenty would. Not informed of the details of the Stanford prison experiment . How was it biased? My understanding was the prisoners staged riots. Threw feces and stuff like that. Lots of soldiers refused to kill the enemy I guess according to grossman's research , again like with the bounty on gang members plenty did go from accountant to mass killer overnight. My main point is that anyone (ok plenty of people who aren't jail birds) can commit violent acts given circumstances and there's nothing different about a violent criminal from a sociopath computer programmer (plenty of them around for sure), except the programmer is smart enough to not go to jail over dumb shit.

cheesesteak -I think we're pretty much in agreement. I have poor impulse control and anger. Like a lot of jailbirds. I am not scared of jail and would enjoy it on some level but have family that depend on me and a lot of other shit I'd like to do besides sitting in a cage. So I try to back down/avoid confrontations. Guess you're right though. Out of say 200 Facebook friends I have probably 3 I could picture going on a cholo killing spree if given the chance...antifret -Authority Figure -Not really an academic . antifret - "The fact that if it was legal people would start stabbing every gang member they see. The soldiers also did not become killing machines when drafted and a lot of them were mentally broken by it. So hardly anyone then? You're greatly overestimating the amount of "sociopaths" and vigilante rednecks, even if it was legal there would be basically no one that would do it, if you don't understand what it takes to take another persons life then I guess this is pointless. There would be some people that could be molded into killers but that's it they have to be molded to be like that they were made to not see the enemy as people so they would have less qualms about killing them. I can't remember where I read about it but there's a little piece about it on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment#Criticism Sure people can be pushed to commit violent acts but more often than not the average person will do everything in their power to avoid violence. No there aren't plenty of violent sociopathic computer programmers around and even if there was that doesn't mean they are capable of real physical violence. |

One in 25 are sociopaths according to the google search I just did. The intersection of those with violent people who have enough intelligence and impulse control to not already be in jail. Guessing 1 in a 100 ish. That's still a fuck ton of people.

Apparently it's more like 1 out of 100 people are sociopaths according to a survey of 10,000 people and even if that's true the chances of those people being violent is even less. |

Leave it the UG to start an argument about a brown belt in prison and lead it into a fake scenario involving a 6"8 accountant with a killer instinct. Both of these sick assholes are going to get what's coming. Isn't that enough? |
