This isn't a 8 minute gi match bro. Think 1 on 10 w/ shanks, gouging, etc

It doesn't even need to be 10-1.

BJJ isn't magic. Both Maldonado and Schultz are small and average in size. A larger male >200lbs and athletic will give them plenty of trouble if he's out for blood..... 2 average built guys, with a history of violence, will be able to cause some serious harm if given the time.

Both guys are in for tough times, and if police aren't misrepresenting the case, it's all deserved.

fat referee do you even trane? You sound like someone who listens to rap music and watches too many movies. A bjj blue belt is gonna get through prison unscathed no matter what he did. A purple is gonna eat those dimbulb criminals in jail for lunch. The only advantage a "hardened" criminal has over a non-criminal is the criminal has nothing to lose. I'm a professor and researcher. Give me an average gang member and i'll take his lunch money if i'm not going to jail for messing him up. What makes someone a "hardened" criminal besides the fact that they're an idiot who does dumbass shit that gets you thrown in jail? You act like these guys go to some sort of special ops training or something. An accountant with a 2 striped white belt could take out most cholos.

This is complete and utter bullshit, with all due respect.

And yes I train (BJJ purple belt here). I've also been in altercations with violent individuals.

Violence is not an MMA fight or a BJJ match. Just because you have a blue belt does not mean you will survive 3 full grown men who choose to violently assault you.

Note, I am by no means implying these guys will get "raped" in prison. That stuff certainly doesn't happen where I'm from (Singapore, though they do give you the cane, yay for corporal punishment). But if they were to encounter a group of individuals who decided to attack them, their high level brown and purple belts won't save them.

I'll say it again, BJJ is not magic.

let's not try and turn this in to an indictment of their instructors or schools...that's just dumb.

might as well blame their mommas.

what's "just dumb" is ignoring the centuries old tradition of teaching moral instruction/a code of ethical behavior to those that you are teaching lethal fighting technique to. Maybe if you focus some time on this in the classroom it will weed out those who are too far gone to change, and influence those on the fence.

But it's ok, as that would take time away from IBJJF competition training, oh well if a few gang rapists slip through the cracks.

Lloyd Irvin had these guys under his wing and tutelage for years. Take some responsibility.

The statement below is way off base. Lloyd Irvin like him or not is not known for this kind of stuff and I am certain if he could he and his school would handle this better then law enforcement can.

...please put that "medicinal" down, and let the justice system do its job...this isn't some cheesy martial arts B-movie starring Billy Blanks. Gotta think with that many students, 1 or 2 bad apples will slip through, even if they had the most stringent standards (those who have the potential to commit great harm can appear very normal). Yes, hopefully this woman can pick up the pieces and go on.

Really kind of amazed by the commets that get posted here.

It terrible what happened to the victim. I hope they get the full ten years and they get a psych evalution as well so these guys will never be able to live carefree lives again.

I personally believe in giving people second chances in life. That is why i did not support Bellator cutting their fighter because of his murder charge.

But in chance of rape,especially of this viciousness and abhorence i gladly make a exception. These two guys should never be able to compete anywhere ever again but a prison gym or at their own home if they ever managed to come out.

Personally i would like to see a rape this vicious be punished by chemical castration regardless. It might not stop rape but it will work as mechanism to repeal in some cases.
