Source: Who has the best cardio in MMA? Easy, Duane Ludwig
According to a recent study Ludwig was #1 in UFC history when it comes to best cardio. No GSP, Fitch, MM, Velasquez, or Edgar in the top 10? Yet they have JDS in the top 10. What kind of joke is this? They also have listed Tiequan Zhang as the worst cardio in the UFC really? and Volkmann is also in the top 6 with worst cardio.

Diaz should be at the top, but I think Edgar should take it or MM |

How can you even measure that based in what they do in mma, & not some head to head endurance competition? |

What in the blue hell? I measure cardio based on output all around until the end of a fight. I certainly do not have Ludwig anywhere near that list. Then again, wtf do I know, I'm a dog. |

I love statistics and I love striking but the rationale behind this 'best cardio' claim is just ridiculous. |

Benson Henderson Clay Guida Frank Edgar Georges St PIerre Carlos Condit Nick Diaz most of the guys below 155
Can't really think of anyone above 170 with exceptional cardio. Cain probably, although it didn't look so hot in his last fight. |

My vote is Guida. He can fight a round full of scrambles for positioning, be put in bad positions that he has to fight out of and always gets up bouncing around the cage when 99% of guys would have their hands on their hips. |

First we must define what "good cardio" is. What's it based on? I'd say the following criteria applies. And lets make an easy 10 point scale. 1 being worst, 10 being insanely good. 1. Standing "wrestling" stamina (greco-roman, judo, clinch work, et al) 2. Striking stamina (Boxing, Muay Thai, et al) 3. Ground grappling stamina (BJJ, freestyle wresting, positioning, et al) 4. Recovery between rounds (very apparent if a fighter is trying to recover from a bad round) 5. Recovery from taking a solid strike. Now we must apply this to fighters. I'll attempt to do so on a few fighters with notable cardio. Heavyweight: Cain Velasquez. Based on his fights. 1. Standing "wresting" stamina: 6. 2. Striking stamina: 8. (He punches a lot, but not always full power punches, and he was visibly tired vs. JDS last time out) 3. Ground grappling stamina: 10. 4. Recovery between rounds: 7. 5. Recovery from taking a solid strike: 7. Overall: 7.6 Welterweight. George St. Pierre. Based on his fights. 1. Standing "wresting" stamina: 9. 2. Striking stamina: 9. 3. Ground grappling stamina: 10. 4. Recovery between rounds: 9. 5. Recovery from taking a solid strike: 9. Overall: 9.6 Feel free to add on to this. a 10 on the scale should only be given if he has the best cardio, bar none, in his weightclass. 5 would be avewrage for the weightclass. I don't think anyone in the UFC would be a 1 or even a 2. |

I don't know what the criteria is. Unless it is purely based on strikes/minute, I don't know how Ludwig is even in contention. |
