For the past 16 years, perennial top 10 heavyweight Josh Barnett has been a fighter for hire with no specific ties to any one organization or even a particular region of the world. With no anchor in place and Strikeforce setting sail to the great beyond, MMA’s global fanbase is huddled together eager to see where “The Warmaster” will battle next.

In particular, will the well-traveled submission specialist return to the UFC’s Octagon?

“I think it would be fantastic,” affirms Barnett. “It would be a great place to fight and put myself up against these heavyweights, some of which are considered to be the best in the world. I would like to test that theory out because I don't think some of the praise that is put on these guys is not just inherited by the organization that they fight in. For me to go over there and wreck shop and rampage all over these guys would be a lot of fun for me personally and professionally. But that's not something that's entirely in my ability to make happen, so we'll see how things turn out. We'll see if the UFC wants the services of a mercenary like myself.”

A side question, he says "some of which are the best in the world" when referring to the guys in the UFC, so I wanted to know from the people who follow the sport a little more closely (smaller orgs, orgs over seas, etc..) who outside of the UFC (strikeforce guys not included) would rank within the worlds top 10 or top 15?

PrettyBoy - I don't see Barnett doing that well in UFC right now. I think WSOF might be a great fit for him.

Outside of jds-cain-cormier & possibly overeem-werdum I don't see anybody being a big favorite over Barnett. There are plenty of great matchups to be had for him in the ufc.. not being a top 5 guy in the world is nothing to be ashamed of... & i would rank him just outside of top5 - I think he would do very well v the veterans (mir-nelson-nog 3) & as a measuring stick v the younger guys trying to make names for themselves. Do u see him not doing well as just a title contender or in general v the top 5-15 guys at hw ?

Im still pissed off that Cormier has to cut.

Don't be pist until its 100% - while I could see Cormier doing it for a shot at Jones, I don't see him going to 205 for any fight besides that (hes mentioned kidney & cutting probs previously). Both a JDS fight as well a matchup w Werdum would be great fights, hes also mentioned wanting to fight Mir in his UFC debut.
