cyberc92 - Cormier has power on his feet and will be near impossible to take down. This will be a tough fight for Jones. Jones will have to be concerned with the takedown which will lead to him eating some strikes on the feet. Great post. |

I second this; its a very interesting style match up and I really think it'll come down to who executes their gameplan more efficiently. |

Cormier is fast as a hw. He will not have a speed advantage at lhw. Jones is far too athletic. DC will not be able to get close enough to jones. It's not a wrestling match. DC beat Barnett, but Barnett is not even on the same planet as jones as far as striking or athleticism. Not even close. Jones by a landslide!

wiggum -mose - or UFC champion Kevin Jackson. No, the point is that success in wrestling doesn't translate to success in mma in any very predictable way. So listing a bunch of Cormier's wrestling accomplishments means just slightly more than nothing when it comes to MMA. When it comes to the top of the heap in MMA, I, and many others, feel that Cormier's physical traits will be a limiting factor. |

Jones's striking will no doubt open up and test Cormier's TDD.

mose -wiggum -mose - or UFC champion Kevin Jackson. Just go watch the Barnett fight and watch how he bitch tosses him around WWE style. No reason to think he couldn't do that to Jones should he get ahold of him. DC is fast with power in his hands and his takedowns are effortless. Jones is an all around monster. It would be a great fight and hard to predict how it would go especially since both guys seem comfortable fighting in any position. This fight must happen, imo. |

Cormier has quite a bit of fat on him, but you better believe that with the weight cut he will lose some muscle as well...He'll likely be smaller than Rashad when he's done getting down to 205lbs and will lose a fair amount of strength and power too. JBJ beats him IMO....We'll see |

mose -wiggum -mose - or UFC champion Kevin Jackson. Any given measurable physical trait (not referring to athleticism based traits) has both positives and negatives. Long arms are easier to hit your opponent at distance (good) but are easier for your opponent to lock-on to submit you (bad). For instance, Cormier has to "get inside" standing (bad), but he would be less susceptible to an arm-bar while in the opponents guard (good). As for athleticism, speed, power, explosiveness, coordination, reflexes, and basically sheer natural ability, Cormier is obviously gifted enough in those areas to be able to compete at the top as an elite combat-sport athlete. |

And to say that undefeated Cormier, an Olympian with KO power and excellent hand speed, has no chance against anyone is just ludicrous. |

Wait. Barnett would be destroyed by anyone in the top 10 in the UFC ? Is that what I just read? Please name me all 10 who would destroy Barnett. And Cormier will be a tough matchup for JBJ. Wrestling skills are outstanding which could cause problems. Hopefully we can end this conversation with a fight between them.

A lot of people on this thread who don't understand who or what Josh Barnett is capable of saying Cormier would have trouble in the top three @ HW............... |

ausgepicht -wiggum -mose - or UFC champion Kevin Jackson. Cormier and Askren are both position over submission fighters; they are the best in the world at getting and maintaining position which wins fights. Neither Jones nor GSP will be able to stop their TDs or control the position. |
