Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi spoke with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani recently about who he wants to fight when he arrives in the UFC. "...I think timing's right," said Mousasi of entering the UFC. "I've done everything outside of UFC - Strikeforce, Japan, kickboxing, mauy-thai, I think the time is now to go, to fight those well known names. "I'm not challenging (Alexander Gustafsson), but I think that's a good fight. I want to fight him because he's a good fighter; people think he's a good fighter. Shogun, Machida - all of these guys people consider really good fighters, so I want to fight someone that people think is good and I think these match ups are more exciting than against some other opponents and they're top contenders so, I think fighting them would make sense for me the most so I can go earlier to the title shot." Who do you think Gegard should fight first?

GregBell - basically he doesnt want to fight wrestlers... shogun would be good lyoto would be good save alexander for bones. Well, that's because he knows a lot of wrestler in the UFC, some not really that great of fighters, can ruin your stock by laying on you and negating all striking. Moussasi knows the boys mentioned above are game and ready to throw down, and not go Ancient Olympian-styles on them. And I agree. Shit, I'm no fighter, but if I am an awesome striker, shitty wrestlers can ruin my payday and my image. (No offence to wrestling of course, but you get the idea.) |

Those are no-joke matchups either, any of those guys vs Gegard = fireworks. So the guy wants to fight really tough guys and put on exciting fights. I'm a fan. I'd like to see Mousasi go train with Hendo and his guys in California. |

Times has changed. Even the almighty Dana White has started to realize the public doesnt like the wrestling style of fighting. Lay and prey style. They need to finish fights. Learn some submissions, etc. If you are wrestler you need to do as Cain and Cormier does it. Thats different. So yes please give us exciting fights. I think he has the best standup in the LHW division right now. Who else have been considered for the Olympics in boxing in that weight division?! |

Gegard Mousasi has never been wrecked. What makes you think Alex would do so? Gustafson has done what exactly? Before King Mo just used top control against Gegard, everyone here touted him as the next big p4p king. He still beat the shit out of Mo from his back, I honestly thought he won that fight from the bottom. I still believe he has those tools to be an all time great. If you have not actually followed his career I can see why one would not make that assumption but make no mistake, Gegard is a fucking killer. I think he may end up champion, not sure what division. Possibly after Anderson retires. Dunno how he'd do against Jones. But I think he beats guys like Alex, Davis, Shogun, Lyoto. |

Exactly. The scoring system is faulty. I doubt half of these 2011/2012 peopl even saw the fight, probably just checked on Wiki and read on here that he was "wrestlefucked". Another good example of this type of terrible decision was Mighty Mouse vs Miguel Torres from a couple years ago. Guy on the bottom clearly won, judges said guy on top won for doing... what exactly? |

i love all of these fights... except maybe shogun. i know it would be a good fight - i'm just sick of seeing shogun have to get beat to a pulp in every single fight win or lose. out of all the strikeforce fighters, i'm most excited to see how gegard does. |

I'd like to see him against Bader. If he can't defend the TD, I'd rather find that out immediately.

ortman166 - I say if machida beats Hendo. give Hendo moose saucey. Not likely on either end IMO. They have trained together and are pretty cool. If push came to shove I could see it but not just like that. |

Ew0k187 -Galanis -This This. Mo landed virtually nothing in that fight and got worked from the bottom. As long as the scoring system awards takedowns over damage, we will get blanket matches like this one. |

Galanis - Pretty much the same story with Mousasi vs Jardine. Keith got 4 takedowns in the first, which he couldn't capitalize on, cuz Mousasi popped right back up. Then Mousasi lit him up on the feet quite good in that round, but they gave it to Jardine. Also with the illegal upkick, which was more like grazing, not really serious one - 1 point away and there you go. They've made a draw out of one sided pounding. Basically those two fights were perfect examples of what's wrong with the juding in mma. First of all the takedown itself is valued like nothing else. 30 punches to the head? 5 sub close sub attempts? fuck it, as long as you're on top, you're winning. Ofcourse it's not the case in every fight or not even in most of those, but yea it is a big problem. Then it gets even worse with the scoring and seriously I don't understand what's the problem with those people. They've got 10 points at their disposal, 9 for the loser. Why on earth every fuckin round has to be 10:9. Cain vs JDS was textbook domination and it only had few 10:8 rounds. Cyborg got 10:7 once when she nearly killed the other girl. What's the problem with using numbers lower than that? Those in charge of this shit are really dumb fucks, cuz this sport has been around for years now and it still uses a system which could sort of work if all the judges didn't use it like they were scoring 12 round boxing match. This is even weirder considering more and more judges these days are ex-fighters. Just make one simple rulebook with examples : "this is a 10:10 round, this is a close 10:9, this one is a 10:5 ass whooping". Or slice the amount of point in half to 5, so these maroons will understand it better. |
