But when you bring over the best from another promotion, and feed them to Mir (Cormier) and Griffin (Shogun) you kinda get my point. |

But Shogun lost to Forrest then won the title late. Not a good gate.

butters 209 -Not that I necessarily agree with OP, but former glory doesn't really matter today. As they say, you're only as good as your last fight.Tilla - Are these the gatekeepers of their divisions?When two are former champions , guess you've only been watching mma for last year Tim Sylvia can't even get into the gate. I think Kongo is the best example of gatekeeper, at least in the HW division.

I think Bisping is an awful example, still a high level MW. And Mir's most recent fight was a title shit haha doesn't seem like gatekeeper status to me, I would call a guy like Vladimir Matyushenko more gatekeeper level, everyone OP mentions fights are above gatekeeper. |

For a while Kampmann was the welterweight welcoming committee. If I'm not mistaken he was the debut fight for Shields, Condit, and Daley. |

How is Bisping still top 5?... Didn't he lose his last fight? OH WAIT THAT'S RIGHT, he did. He's maybe top 10. Definitely not top 5.

The gatekeeper is the guy who is at top level but will never hold a belt. Bisping is a gatekeeper. Griffin is not top level. Mir I can see taking the HW belt again some day as long as the champ isn't JDS. And I don't see JDS getting through Cain.

bisping has never won a fight vs a top 10 fighter. he's lost to a few though. |
