KZTT_CodyLarge -in_different - Many dont run. Its not the same kind of cardio. Gsp said he only does mma training and gymnastics for cardio. Weightlifting for looks.I'd love to see the source of this. A:he runs, maybe not much but I've watched him to sprints. And B: no way the sentence "I lift weights just to look good" came out of his mouth lol Sprints are certainly different and that is what GSP does... The op mentions "Miles" , many fighters with great gas tanks do not run... They just sprint train |

Olive Garden Table For One -Willin - You have to grapple... and particularly wrestle to know how much wind that takes out of you. Even after a "short" 6 minute wrestling match you're usually absolutely exhausted. The best way to gain the cardio for it is to do tons of live wrestling. Running a leisurely 3-5 mile jog isn't doing thattt much good other than sweating weight off. Wind sprints help more. Only when cutting weight |

Sprinting actually gets your cardio/lungs/gas to a place live wrestling typically can't because of your body is involved. In a D1 wrestling room, the sprint workouts tend to bring heavier breathing. Wrestlers will run/jog as an extra workout if they are cutting. They'll also often hop on a machine (eliptical, etc.) right after practice and get an extra 30 minutes in. We would run "distance" (5 miles) or so for recovery. Not conditioning. Lots of sprints. Mile, 800s, 400s, shorter distances. |

Running is as manly as you can get. Nothing better than seeing a meathead who benches some stupid weight a couple times, pussy out after 3k. Running and fighting do hand in hand. Nick Diaz sure like to run. Money May likes to run. Those Thai fighters sure like to run. I don't see why a fighter wouldn't run. |

The thing I didn't mention about running earlier is that its mental. That is the best training some athletes can give themselves. Its you against the road and yourself. Y.u know when you slack and when you push. You know when you give 100% effort and when you give 85%. If we look at BJ Penn, he ran with all his effort against Diego Sanchez. And he took it a bit easy in Frankie Edgar fight 2. That's the idea of running. Many wrestlers in mma don't truly need that training because we KNOW they are mentally tough. Some do it because it helps them keep themselves motivated. |

I'm wondering if some of the top fighters/trainers who downplay the importance of road work are using EPO to boost their anaerobic threshold. AFAIK the commissions don't even test for it. |

Thanks for all the great input and suggestions but for some reason I feel like running long distance does help when I look at guys like nick Diaz who never gets tired.

jamie varner runs like 5-6 miles a week during camp usually. just does a couple miles, a few times a week as a warmup for a real workout. he's one of the few i know that consistently runs but everyone i know at the UFC level runs sprints. there is no question that you need those |

It helps, but it can cause wear and tear on your body after a while so most fighters don't do much. They find other ways to get in shape. |

The correct answer is none or not enough. I can't believe so many people/fighters don't believe or are against running! This is ridiculous. Most people don't do it because they hate it. It's a mentally tough thing to do to put in that road work which is why so many people and fighers don't like doing it. I've met a ton of high level fighters don't do it, I've met a bunch that are against it. I'm all about running. The results are amazing. Boxers run a ton, and have been doing this for years on end. I think they know what they're talking about. This method has been used for fighting 12-15 round fights. I see so many mma fighters gas out so quick, even on the highest levels. I personally think a lot of this is from the lack of running. I run a ton. Mainly long-distance running, although I need to add sprints in. I can see the results in my dojo because I'm not even thinking about getting tired! It gives me so much cardio and confidence! It's amazing. There is nothing like the feeling u get from running it's amazing! |

I mean what did Carwin get diagnosed with before? Lacticosid Adosis or some shit? Mother of Christ.. |
