Making rules to make a sport more spectator friendly is always catch 22. |

You can't, it's doesn't appeal to the masses. Just like why there isn't real pro wrestling |

^ yup. it's just not that exciting to watch unless you train. if girls did it in bikini's, then you would have something. |

Better understanding of scoring and rules for those of us who don't watch

BJJ will become a spectator sport the day NCAA wrestling does. It can't. It won't. If you did it, are doing it or just train; it's interesting to watch. Otherwise it's lacking "action" for those watching and as a result can't suit their tastes. Adapt BJJ to become more fan friendly and you may as well change everything and allow punching.

The people who are watching BJJ are the only people that are ever going to watch. Most people who watch are people who have something to do with the sport... either they train bjj or they are something to do with the business. |

Whenever I see tech videos or bjj matches I always wish they would wear different colors. It makes it much easier to see what's going on |

Muzalini - Better understanding of scoring and rules for those of us who don't watch Education is the key. I also like the idea of different coloured gis, sort of like with wrestling tournaments. In fact, someone who likes collegiate wrestling should also like BJJ if they've been educated. |

Submission only could help, no points no advantages, just finishes. There's been tons of these tournies happening here in SoCal recently, and people's friends and family have been less confused. It's not the only answer, but it's a fun format.

Christ Crapped in My Fish and Chips - You couldn't be more wrong. At one time Catch was the most popular sport in America and one of the most popular sports in the world. It was in many world games, at the Olympics, and many international events. Olympic wrestling is called "Amateur wrestling" because it is wrestling without submissions....which is professional wrestling. Fake pro wrestling sprouted from Catch. Amateur wrestling is popular the world over. Same with Judo. Both takedowns and submissions can appeal to the masses. It just needs some grassroots support, good marketing, and some personalities behind it.
