I recently picked up a part-time gig as a trainer at TITLE Boxing Club in Ann Arbor. They let us play our own music when we're leading classes, and I'm focusing on rock & soul to break up the club mixes they usually have on — Zeppelin, Iggy/Stooges, Black Keys, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, that sort of thing. It's been going great so far, but I need more ideas. So my question: What song is guaranteed to flip your "beast" switch when you're lifting/running? Must be relatively upbeat (120-160), but nothing too abrasive/profane. |

Never fails. Maybe it's my Italian blood, but I just want to run and do push ups and sit ups and punch someone bigger than me when I hear this. |

I don't really listen to it outside of the gym but I always get pumped up to a lot of hype Rap like DMX, MGK, etc.

When I work out I usually listen to stuff I don't listen to when I'm relaxing. I find that stuff like Prodigy really pumps me up. Songs like Invaders must die, breathe etc. I also listen to fast paced drum n bass. Utah Jazz is one of my favourites. Boom bap rapsongs will also do the trick. Definitely check out E.S. Posthumus. Music that can make things like taking a shit epic. Just straight epic warrior music to me. Imagine being part of an army. You're riding your horse and swinging your sword as you're about to kill some enemies. That kind of feel.

When I train my clients you'd be surprised at what motivates them. DMX (as mentioned) has made a lot of grannies pump out a few more reps.

eminem has some good tracks also. welcome to detriot city is a good one to work out with. plus everyone in ann arbor loves em Tyga - Rack City really anything that has a aggressive beat with alot of bass will do the trick. if your worried about rap being to profane you can always play the radio mixes of all the songs. |
