Lol why on earth would Silva not have finished him if he could? Silva did not want to overcommit to punching in the last couple rounds for fear of the takedown. Maia over Fitch by sub

knuckleballs -Dont know how any of that is relevant to this fight. Nobody is thinking fitch will KO Maia.disbeliever -knuckleballs -disbeliever -knuckleballs - Anderson Fucking Silva couldn't put Maia away in 25 minutes. I think Fitch doesn't bring much to the table for him, but, i think that they are both pretty evenly matched, regardless.

ortman166 -burner22 -Maia is a far better striker then FitchVale_Tudo_83 - Im looking forward to fight maia has iooked good at ww. I think he wins standing and on the ground. The only way Jon win is guida style lay and pray.Eh the more I think about the more I doubt fitch can LNP a man of maia's abilities. Fitch should have the edge on the feet tho, and that may be where he looks to keep it. Maybe go for td's late in the rounds. I hope it doesn't turn into a c grade boxing match tho I would say Maia has more talent, but he also leaves more openings IMO. |

RileyPust -I'd agree with that. He tends to get a little overeager and charge at people. I think fitchs striking is a tad underratedortman166 -burner22 -Maia is a far better striker then FitchVale_Tudo_83 - Im looking forward to fight maia has iooked good at ww. There is no comparison between fitchs opponents bjj abd maias. Fitch does not have the edge standing and will have a huge skill disparity on the ground. He's got wrestling but maia has proven wrestlers can't hang with him as much. His weakness is powerful fat strikers with take down defense. Fitch is not that. I'm a huge fitch fan but if erik silva can nearly sub him (that was insanely close) maia can do whatever he wants. Maia will be bigger stronger and hit harder. Maia is headed towards a shot. Fitch is the favorite because of name value. Stylistically this is a horrible fight for him. He can't sit in the guard against arguably the best bjj guy in mma (roger gracie probably has the title but ya).

Maia is a better wrestler than Fitch IMO. I don't think people really understand this. Maia was forced to Stand and Wang against guys like Munoz and Weidman because they're huge wrestlers with elite credentials and he couldn't budge them. He ragdolled both Kim and Story. Now Kim's injury was a fluke, but the brilliant takedown straight into mount wasn't. Kim would have been in real bad shape anyway. Also Maia became the only fighter to finish Rick Story, which is damned impressive. While Fitch has great offensive wrestling, Fitch's TDD has always been suspect (and I've maintained this since even before the Penn fight). And Maia has some excellent takedowns. I feel as if Maia can win either by sub, or decision. And on the feet I'm not sure how it would go...if Fitch really did stuff Maia's subs but didn't take Maia down, I'm not sure who wins on the feet. Fitch's striking is underrated, but Maia's striking is decent, and he has more power - both Anderson and Munoz said they were surprised how hard Maia hit, and Wanderlei who spars with Maia has always said the same thing. I'd definitely much prefer a grappling match between these two though than a sloppy kickboxing match... |

burner22 -DaemonDragon - Maia is a better wrestler than Fitch IMO. I don't think people really understand this.Spot on about the wrestling bro Thank you :) I truly did expect Maia to "Fitch", but didn't think he'd be THAT dominant. Fitch had zero offense, Maia was in dominant position for like 13 out of the 15 minutes! Crazy impressive. WW is a good division for Maia, as his wrestling is better than almost everybody's. GSP, Kos, and maybe Ellenberger/Hendricks/Rory are the only other guys I see him having trouble with. We really don't know how good Rory's TDD is though, and Hendricks' MMA TDD is good but not great. So I'm not sure how those fights go. Fitch though has never showcased impressive TDD, which is why I figured Maia would grapplef*ck him. |

UGCTT_LastCall - Maia will only stand and Wang as long as it takes to grab hold of Fitch...and then it will be a sad day for Jon. This guy knew what was up. |
