About the French. The French military has won more wars than any other military in history. It was fighting against a far superior German war machine from the very start of the war (unlike you Johnny come latelys) and although their country fell the military regrouped and fought against the axis powers in ever single theatre available. They suffered, along with the British, greater loss of life than the Americans. Just years earlier they had lost 1.3 million troops in WW1. They have also been participants in just about every conflict you could think of since 1945 including Korea, Vietnam, Suez, The Gulf War and have recently bombed the shit out of Libya and are currently in Mali. Show more respect ignorant Yankee inbreds

Since we are on the subject about the French, I thought this would be a good time to see if anyone wanted a french rifle from WWII? Conditions as follows: never been shot, and only dropped once. My asking price is $300/obo

the whole war could have been ended almost before it started if the French or the English had any balls at the time. At the beginning of the war, Germany had almost no protection on their western side, and any serious military action by France or England would have devastated them. Hitler gambled on England and France being chickenshit, and he won. |

You are correct about the aftermath of WW1 being a prime reason why France and England were reluctant to confront an increasingly intransigent Germany. France in particular was hit very hard by WWI and was in no mood for another war, but the fact remains that when Germany started invading to the East, they had very little protection on their West. If France or England had the balls to take action against them at the time, WW2 could essentially have been averted. What part of that don't you think is true? |

I'll give it to the french that they helped us out in our revolutionary war, calling us johnny come lately for WW2 in a little dumb. I'm pretty sure we facilitated the end of WW2 by 1: showing japan the meaning of big ass motherfucking bomb twice and 2:tying up the german forces on the western front allowing the Russians (who had the most losses in WW2) to take Berlin. France lost only 2.4% of what Russia lost in that war! france entered the war in September of 1939 ended in 1945 and lost an average of 81,085/year involved (567,600 total) United States entered the war in december of 1941 and ended in 1945. Lost an average of 83,700/year involved (418,500 total)

OP is largely correct - if the UK had a long land border with Germany in 1939 they would have been knocked out of the war as well. So would the US have been in a similar state in 1941. The French lost one war to the mightiest military power of its day and they have been catching unwarranted shit ever since. |
