Thinking ofnbuying a small boat, something with a decent size cabin. I started off thinking of getting a small rv, decided a boat with cabin would be way more versatile and fun.

Catalina 25 seems to be a great boat that has a decent sized cabin with galley. 2 sails with the option of a outboard motor, still trailerable. I'd like to use it maybe 6 to 8 times a year for fishing/recreational party on a mix of lake and gulf of Mexico. Then another 4 times a year tow it and use as a rv while camping.

Got any input og?

Are you rich? Boats are stupid expensive to buy and maintain. My only sailing experience is a small catamaran. I looked into going bigger (28-36'), but the only thing even close to my budget, in good shape, was 20 years old.

If you do have the funds, I would do it. Make sure you hire a surveyor if you buy a used boat.

Another option that I've looked at is joining a boating club. Generally there's an annual or monthly fee, but you get access to their entire range of boats. Something like freedomboatclub.com. I haven't looked at much other than cost, but when I did check some locations have sailboats available, along with nice fishing boats and party boats.

Im a blue collar guy, not rich at all. It looks like older models of the catalina 25 go for 4 to 5k in good condition.

While i dont have 4k sitting around, it is an amount i could save up. Phone Post

unless your  a experienced sailor I would say get a RV . This is not a motor boat where you turn a key and steer it.

ex-gf's father had a brand-new, expensive 39' Beneteau, and he had to spend at least one full day maintaining it for every day we spent out on the water. And that was just for day-sailing, not overnight trips.

You have to enjoy the maintenance/tinkering part or it's not worth it.

I like me some tinkering, im more of a car guy and around the house stuff. From what i read, it has 2 sails. A main sail and a jib. Also looks like some guys put a small outboard motor.

I think 4 grand as long as it came with a trailer would be a good deal. Saw a really nice one on galveston craigslist, no trailer but in great shape. Phone Post

A schooner is a type of glass used for serving German wheat beer. In Australia, it is a name for a particular glass size, used for any type of beer.

The 2 best days of boat ownership are, the day you buy, and the day you sell.

THIS

The best thing that ever happened to me was getting turned down for a loan on a sail boat. A friend of mine bought one a few months after my unsuccessful attempt and he regretted it. He spent about 5K on it, 25 ft. Macgreggor in decent shape. He used it twice that year and it required so much upkeep he just said fuck it and parked it by his garage. It's been there ever since and that was about 5 years ago.
