Pedro's cup Challenge is Feb 23 and the clinic is on the 24th open to all skills levels of judo and the Russians will be instructing at the clinic. The 3 hr clinic is only $50. If interested the contact info is below:Might require USA,USJF, USJA judo memberships ($40-$50) Call(781) 245-0644 or email rileymcilwain@gmail.com. This is a lifetime opportunity to train with these Russians. The Pedro cup challengge will have some awesome judo talent on the 23rd. I am planning to attend. |

Anyone in the vicinity who is able to attend would be crazy to pass up this opportunity. The skill level doesn't get much, if any, higher than this. |

What makes the Russian style of judo so effective is their counters. They can score with either their throws or counters to the opponents throws better than anyone elses style of judo. Their style is what I would descibe as "rugged". Not only do you loose but get "beatup" in the process. |

Very cool. Is the leg attack at about 45 seconds still legal in judo?

His leg attack was legal since it was a counter attack to the opponents kosoto gake attack. Under the new rules for 2013 these counter leg atacks or any leg attacks for that matter are illegal. 2 of the 3 Olympic gold medals were won with counter leg attacks. |

I'm becoming a judo fan but am still trying to get a grasp on the rules.

So are we (grasping the new rules). The new rules for 2013 are just being rolled out. Basically all leg grabs/blocks from a standing position are not legal. Leg grabs on the ground are ok. Requiring the athletes to throw more by penalizing negative gripping strategies or not attacking once you get the grip. To really appreciate judo you have to watch the world class athletes and what they go thru to get that recognition. |

Mansur is 73K ( 146-160 lb), Iliadis is 90K (179-198 lbs). The best thrower in my opinion is Olympic gold medalist Jae Bum Kim (81K) Korea. He destoyed the competition at the Olympics. |
