Nova Uniao Black Belt and current UFC Featherweight Champion of the World, Jose Aldo, is continuing his efforts to give back to his community. With the success of his previous auctions and the proceeds gathered from Nova Uniao merchandise sales, new mats and kimonos were able to be purchased for the students in the community programs supported by the non-profit organization LIVE Jiu-Jitsu. Now, with his latest win over Frankie Edgar at the UFC 156, Aldo hopes to again raise funds that will further the development of these programs with the help of Nova Uniao USA President, Gustavo Dantas, who is responsible for the promotion of the program in the US and funds distribution to Brazil through Live Jiu-Jitsu, in which he is the co-founder.
What is Live Jiu-Jitsu?
Live Jiu-Jitsu is a non-profit organization which focuses on raising funds to support Jiu-Jitsu programs for the youth and young adults living in low-income and gang populated areas in Brazil known as “favelas”. It is within Live Jiu-Jitsu’s objective to be able to sponsor 2-3 athletes from 10 to 15 years old, every year to compete at the IBJJF Pan Kids or other tournaments in the U.S. Many of those living in these favelas will never get the chance to leave their cities, let alone the country, in order to travel or compete. Opportunities like the ones we would like to provide are essential in giving these young people hope and inspiration to lead a life of purpose.
