Jack Slack -
OnlyTheStrongSurvive -

Great read. What do you think of all the Anderson Silva vs RJJ in a hypothetical kickboxing match talk?

Kickboxing? Anderson easily by actually having trained in it.

Boxing? Roy Jones easily.

All favoritism aside - Anderson is great at rolling with punches and does it all the time when the opponent punches left right left right. On the few occasions he has had an opponent double up with one hand he has rolled right into the second punch.

Franklin did it once in their second match, Bonnar did it once against the cage and that boxer he sparred with at wild card landed some viscious punches off of a triple right hook combo.

There's a reason boxers can't roll with everything - decent opposition in boxing will vary their combinations. Roy Jones was exceptional at doubling, tripling and even quadrupling up blows. He's a very bad match up for Anderson boxing wise.

Always insightful and a great read!

Anderson does roll into doubled up punches sometime but I think it was a lack of respect for bonnar and franklins striking. Vitor doubled up on the lead hook and Anderson masterfully evaded both, though I can't remember if it was a shoulder roll...

|

idk if his reach was anything special but his arm length was ridiculous proportionate to his body. it really looked as if he was holding fake fists at the end of sticks underneath those gloves. |

Roy was never the same after he came off of roids. Still my favorite boxer of all time though. |

da Vinci 81 - I still think he's probably the best p4p boxer of all time. It was unreal the things he could do in the ring.

If he retired as soon as he got that HW belt, there'd be few who would disagree with your opinion. The dude's reflexes were otherworldly. My gawd was he something to watch when he was at his very best! |

Did Roy Jones ever fail a steroid test? If so, what was it for? |

Willin - The post-fight drug test showed Jones and Hall both tested positive for androstenedione, which is a banned substance by the IBF. Androstenedione is a natural steroid hormone that was commonly available over the counter as a supplement until 2004 when the FDA made the over the counter sale of androstenedione illegal. Jones admitted to taking the product "ripped fuel" which was sold in GNC and every nutritional supplement outlet.Jones was able to keep his title and was not fined or suspended for the positive test. All of Jones' other post-fight drug tests before and after this fight came back clean. He ended the year by stopping Eric Harding in the 10th round of a one sided fight, once again successfully retaining the title. PITTSBURGH--General Nutrition Centers (GNC) will begin checking customer ID to verify the shopper is 18 years or older when buying products intended for adult use. Affected GNC products include those containing ephedra, kava, melatonin, androstenedione or synephrine, which all have warning labels regarding underage usage. |

Jack, great series. Not enough UGers know Petrosyan and they should. That guy is such a beauty to watch. I didnt know you were into kickboxing as well as boxing. The difference between orthodox boxing/kickboxing and MMA striking is always a big theme to me. Do you see RJJ's unorthodox and great distance covering as something that could have also worked in MMA? Hypothetical of course without really knowing how he would have adapted to tds, etc. And does Anderson's in MMA remind you of RJJ? I cant think of any other gifted, unorthodox striker in MMA like that. So people want to see Pacquiao covered, perhaps Tyson and PBF as well? Who's next from kickboxing? You got a great European Thai boxer, is a Dutchman or Thai guy next? Do you follow Kyokushin and offshoots as well? I dont think people realize how karate was part of kickboxing from the get-go, i'd be interested in reading an evolution of modern kickboxing and MMA striking piece too. Also, people said they wanted to see Masato vs Petro due to the How do you think that would have went? As for MMA strikers? Anderson, Machida, Hendo, Fedor, Aldo...? |

I think a piece on greatest Sprawl n Brawlers or those who could strike while avoiding the tds would also enlighten: Liddel, CC, Machida, Aldo....Andy's tdd is underated too. And yes, JDS still should get mentioned in this category. |

God, I don't think anybody wants to see PBF covered. He's a technical master, but everyone knows what his game is about. Shoulder roll, Philly Shell, counter-punching etc. The only thing interesting about his game to me is that he so rarely uses the jab. |
