Willin - Spike it with your knee or straight right. Spiking with your knee is the smallest, most efficient and most damaging.

GladiatorGannon -SKARHEAD - Duke, what do you think about the monstrous leg kicks that Ricardo Arona would would throw in Pride ? Vanderlei Silva was a Muay Thai fighter, but those leg kicks literally knocked him down to the floor w/ Arona's legs/thighs, and trunk being so thick and powerful....How should Vanderlei have checked a kick that literally sent his weight sprawling to the floor ? I believe Aus just illustrated my point. |

Literally stunned at how many people are unaware about low kick defenses to this day. I learned 4-5 leg kick defenses directly from the man Erik Paulson himself in like 1994. The spike seen in the GIFs I posted was the first one he showed me and told me it was the best. He also showed me a little secret on how to make it so the person kicking nails your knee or the thickest part of your shin EVERY time. |

Aldos kicks come so fast...non issue is correct. Theyre getting through regardless - blocking will be a non issue. |

Billy Joe Rottoncrotch - They seemed to be an issue for Mark Hominick. This was my exact thought when I read the article this morning. Aldo's kicks are a different beast for mma. Even checking one will be bad news. That said, even as big of an Aldo fanboy as I am (he's my all time favorite fighter) I would be foolish to think that Pettis can't win this fight. FOTY possibility for sure. I can't wait.

Billy Joe Rottoncrotch - They seemed to be an issue for Mark Hominick. Hom doesn't really have a pedigree. One small title maybe? You do know that there is a difference between sport karate and kickboxing and Muay Thai right? The kick to the thigh and its defenses and counters come from Muay Thai, not watered down kickboxing. I'm thinking this is new to you. Regardless, and weird that I actually have to say this, but...are you aware that Mark Hominick and Anthony Pettis are not the same person? You win dumbass of the year. Happy now? Are you going to Disney Land now? |

Billy Joe Rottoncrotch -ausgepicht -Billy Joe Rottoncrotch - They seemed to be an issue for Mark Hominick. Not as angry as you obviously. At least I contributed to the thread and made some points....none of which you have done. Clearly, you're very mad.

ausgepicht -gusto - Rick Roufus vs Kiatsongrit the fight was mentioned on the thread and Duke said it was the reason he focused so extensively on learning and teaching low kick defense but i imagine your flame war and anger issues are way more relevant |

Billy Joe Rottoncrotch - Maybe you should take this up with Mark Hominick. "I believe...." So you are guessing? You don't have an answer for a single question? Is it too complex? Embarrassed for not knowing? You said Mark Hominick had a problem with Aldo's leg kicks. So explain yourself. If Mark had a problem, how is it Pettis will? You also said Hom had a kickboxing pedigree when he has only won a sport karate belt and kickboxing belt....both regional. I think you are out of your league in this one. |

Billy Joe Rottoncrotch - They seemed to be an issue for Mark Hominick. Signed, Cerrone was undefeated in 30 kickboxing/muay thai matches, what about Pettis? |

I don't believe the leg kicks will be a factor, for a different reason, although Duke may have alluded to it also. If you come over the top with a harder counter every time like Anthony has shown a tendency of, they stop, or they'll lose the exchanges so who cares. |

I have all kinds of feelings about this fight. I don't like a fighter dropping and getting an instant title shot, but Pettis vs Aldo is an awesome fight and I really like both fighters. At the same time I don't want either of them to lose because I've always appreciated how they both bring it and really destroy their opponent. I think they both deserve a belt and Guida's win over Pettis is BS. I would rather Pettis have stayed at 155 and beat Benson. lol This is a fight where I wouldn't be surprised if Aldo took it to the ground and we finally saw a broader aspect of his BJJ skills in MMA. Standing they seem so close and, though Pettis has shown he's no slouch on the ground, going by the rumors Aldo "seems" to have the edge there. But why on earth is this fight not happening until August!?!? 6 months is a long time to wait for such a good fight. |

Aldo is a tough match for anyone. I dont know that i think Pettis will win but his absolute best chance would be Duke training him for the fight. |

Aldo > Bendo. Pettis fears no one, refreshing given a certain duck champ in the ufc |

Gokudamus stole my name -Wasa-B -Gokudamus stole my name - Pettis has the right style to defeat Aldo. But i will say the same thing i said with Frankie. Pettis gets away with a lot of things because of his speed at 155, he wont have that with Aldo. Frankie is one of the fastest guys at LW and there was still a noticable speed difference (until Aldo slowed down) Frankie has good footwork too, no? But I suppose the main thing is that Frankie's wrestling in conjuction with his boxing is the main threat while Pettis is a more complete striker but without the wrestling threat. So do you think Aldo will go for tds in this? I think anything that gives any fighter an added weapon/threat/advantage should be used. I also do think Aldo should now be up with Chuck, CC, GSP and Machida in tdd. His dynamic abilities also lends to his ability to scramble out of tds when he is getting taken down as well. I think the same could be said of Aldo for Pettis too though, not Cerrone, Lauzon, etc is on Aldo's striking level. Bendo also was a notch down in terms of striking and overall game imo when he fought Pettis, not that both of them havent improved. Pick? |

ausgepicht -Willin - ya a lot of people these days seem to think that checking a kick is like rolling with a punch, you just lift your leg and go with the flow, and while that may be better than taking the kick clean it is not the best defense. leg kicks are all about location and that goes for utilizing them and defending them thats why the good kickboxers always set up their leg kicks at the end of combos. if u kick the wrong part of the leg or if its defended properly you are in a world of hurt and may very well snap your leg.....its always the kicker with the snapped leg in videos like this and its not because these people do not know how to kick or have weak legs |
