Yes, I've done a ton with cut paper. Some are in the traditional german style, some are 3D sculptures, a mix of both, or pop up books(not children's).
It's very easy once you get the hang of it, and you don't need any special tools. You just need small scissors, an exacto knife for creasing, paper and glue. I also do my own embossing. I cut out the desired shape in heavy paper, put the thinner paper over the cut-out, then rub the edge with an embossing stick.
Here is a children's style piece:
They are are not my best examples, but my more subtle pieces photographed extremely flat looking. These did too, but they don't look as bad.
Right now I am working on some little books of William Blake's poems. I am on The Fly right now. I will do The Sick Rose next. I will post pics when I am done.
