My favorite outdoor activity. The parks up here in quebec open up in a few weeks and i can't wait. It's a paddlers paradise up here with a wilderness the size of western europe and literally thousands of lakes and rivers to choose from. |

"Never been to Quebec. Always wanted to check it out. Any suggestions where to canoe?" Depends on what you like? Whitewater? Solitude? Tundra? Lake circuits? There is a park called De La Vereyndre which is 6 hours north of Montreal. It is the size of Belgium and contains pristine wilderness with over 4000 lakes.I will try to find the link. hold on... www.sepaq.com/LaVerendrye |

matt, I used to go up above minnesota in the "Quetico Provincial Parks" in canada. It was excellent. We would go out for 10 days and bring all food/gear/etc with us. Water was so clean we could drink right out of the lakes; the nearest source of pollution was over 400 miles away. |

I with AGS. I have been to the Quetico 3 times with the trips ranging from 10-14 days on the water. Great fishing, great tasting water, mosquito swarms that will turn the day's sun into night...good times. |

"Depends on what you like? Whitewater? Solitude? Tundra? Lake circuits?" No whitewater experience. Solitude, scenery, and fishing. Reading John McPhees book The Survival of the Birch Bark Canoe. |

My hats off to people who can canoe. I've tried and always had a tough time for some reason. I'f I'm on a river, it's usually on an inflatable of some sort, doing some whitewater. ttt |

I think the key to controlling the canoe is the "J and C strokes" A lot of people try to use the paddle like a rudder. This, for the most part, doesnt work very well. Front man provides a lot of the power during manuevering, along with pushing off rocks etc. |
