Everton's potential move for Michael Bradley got me to thinking about it again, so I figured I'd start the age old debate again since there has been alot of movement and interest in American players by European clubs lately. Over the past year or two there has been an increasing number of young American players moving to European clubs. Eddie Johnson just left to go to Fulham, where Clint Dempsey jumped to just last year. Freddy Adu moved to Benfica, Danny Szetela went to Racing Santander, Brad Guzan is currently on trial with Celtic, as is Fire goalkeeper Matt Pickins with Norwich City, Preston has made bids for Taylor Twellman that have been rejected by MLS so far, just to name a few. So I pose the question again: young American talent leaving MLS for Europe, good or bad? |

Tough one.....really tough. But I think ultimately, if the US is to become a long term power in footie they have to have a strong domestic league and that has to revolve around US talent. It's going to take a long time. If you look at all the countries that have enjoyed success over long periods, they all have strong domestic leagues. So I'm going to say no on this (with an eye on the long term state of US soccer/MLS), even though some players will surely benefit on a personal level. |

For MLS and the overall development of American football I lean towards the Gov's point of view on this. As much as I'd love to see Guzan take over for Boruc at Parkhead, or Matt Pickens get a shot in England, I really feel that they should be back home helping establish MLS |

If good players stay in the MLS they will not develop into their potential due to the lack of the talent pool in the MLS. MLS is improving yearly but it will take time to become the level of the EPL, La Liga etc..... |

"A-League is better than MLS" Be serious. The A-League has been around for 3 years and , while entertaining, is not on par talent wise with MLS right now. The fact that last year's A-League MVP left to sign with an MLS team should only further illustrate that point |

no idea. But there are a lot of MLS players on the basic wages (about 50k a year I think). Think about that. |

Even lower in a lot of cases. There were a handful of TFC players riding the bus to work last year, earning right around $20,000. Danny Dichio made $69,000, I think. |

Argentina and Brazil leagues pay pretty well but their talent pool is so immense that its not necessary to export players from other countries unless they are already south american. Dichio is lucky to be at TFC right now. LOL @ A-League! Although it seems that MLS teams are now scouring Central and South America for Talent. |

Agreed, doubtful he would have the chance to be a real fan favourite anywhere else, and TFC fans are the best in the MLS despite the poor first year run of their team. Dichio likes it here, has bought a house in the beaches and is applying for Canadian citizenship. |
