I'll ask here because the OG would never give me a straight answer and I respect your opinions. I am working on putting up a bulletin board to go along with my site. Just wanted some feedback on what you like and dislike in BBs, particularly this one. Do you guys like the expandable/collapsible format the best? What do you think of using Reputation? Like as in using it to keep the trolls down and with more positive rep, more rights and extras added on? Avatars? No avatars? What do you like about other boards? What are the MUST haves? And the definitely DON'TS?Feel free to add ANYTHING. I want to make this board kick ass. I also will be DEFINITELY needing mods, so if anyone is interested, let me know! THANKS!!!! Oh and here are some rotties for your troubles:

1524, I was thinking of that and this is what I've culled from others: 1 possibility is to have only Mods be able to negatively affect rep. Anyone can positively affect rep and that would lead to extra rights, privileges, etc. However, any member could warn a mod.

That would probably work until you had a mod that constantly gave someone negative rep points because they just didn't like the person or didn't agree with them, etc.Well, I was thinking it would be a 2 way street. Members could also give positive rep to mods. If a particular mod is getting very little or no rep, that would be almost the same as getting negative rep. There's also the option of members being able to warn another mod or the admin. I would like there to be some mod accountability. I do like the idea of any member being able to warn a mod though, there should be something like that on every forum. This site actually has it: "warn admin". Not sure...I see it. Is it only an option for mods? |

I always used to prefer the tree branch type forums, where you are always "speaking" directly to a post you want to respond to, regardless of the time lag. I also felt it promoted a greater feeling of direct conversation and hence civility, rather than just issuing disembodied comments and cracks (like I have been doing myself prior to introspection). I never before participated in a forum, including with really "serious" people as they say, where people sling insults to each other, regardless of how much they disagree. The mods are extremely liberal here. |

SP, aren't the branch types kind of difficult to navigate through? You can only look at one post at a time, right? |

Aus--I used to read them all through going downward, although not linearly I guess, then "answer" someone when I wanted. I didn't find it harder, but maybe many did and that's why they fell out of favor. |

DD, it is VBulletin. Do you have a VBulletin site or used on in the past?
Thanks SP! |
