The girlfriend of mixed-martial-arts pioneer Charles "Mask" Lewis Jr. – hurled from his Ferrari in the crash that killed him this week – remains in intensive care with head and internal injuries, an attorney for her family said today.

Lacy Lynn White, 23, suffered "quite extensive" injuries in the crash and has had surgery on her arm, attorney Vincent J. Bartolotta Jr. said. He described the family's outlook as "optimistic but guarded."

White worked at the clothing company that Lewis helped create, TapouT, and had been dating him, Bartolotta said. He did not have further details and said she was "too badly injured at this point" for him to talk to her directly.

Police have said that White's medical condition has stabilized, and prosecutors said today that she was being treated for a fractured elbow and several cuts and scrapes. But Bartolotta said she also has head and internal injuries and internal bleeding that doctors are still evaluating.

White was riding in Lewis' Ferrari when he lost control of the car, jumped a curb and slammed into a street lamp with enough force to shear the car in half and knock the street lamp over. He was killed instantly; she was thrown from the car and landed on a dirt embankment nearby.

A Costa Mesa man with two drunken-driving convictions on his record faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing bodily injury. Jeffrey David Kirby, 51, could be sentenced to more than 19 years in prison if convicted.

White's parents declined to comment and referred questions to their attorney, Bartolotta.

Asked whether he was considering a lawsuit, Bartolotta said: "Right now, the concern is with her. Obviously, there may well be issues related to the legal aspects of it, and that's what we're exploring."
