sanguine cynic Member Since: 6/13/04 Posts: 4062	Much better to read the book "unbearable lightness of being", the movie takes out most of the philosophy, but still a good movie. Waking Life is pretty much a philosophy 101 tutorial. Also by Richard Lanklater are the fantastic movies Before Sunrise and it's sequel before sunset, which I think are the two best potrayals of love ever put on film. You have ignored this user.

I watched Unbearable Lightness of Being.   It is a very slow paced movie.   I am sure I missed the whole point of the movie. What did I miss?   This is what I got out of it. I thought it was about 3 people and how they dealt with The Soviet invastion Prague.    The free spirit girl bailed whenever she was burdened with something or someone.   The wife was the opposite.  She felt connected to Prague and couldn't have sex as a way to experience freedom.  The doctor was in the middle.  He had sex to experience experience freedom but liked being having a wfie too. When she left to go back to Prague, I think we were supposed to think that he was now free of the ball and chain and now lightened of that burden of marriage.   He would continue on to fuck a lot of women and that would make him happy.   But instead he couldn't bear that freedom.  He liked having some burden that weighed him down some.  Olin Lena is very hot.    The lady who played the wife looks like how I'd imagine Mathida from the movie Leon would look when she got a few years older.     You have ignored this user.

It is the opposite of groundhog day. There is NO eternal recurrence, therefore the heavy responsibility one would have and importance of once actions is made “light” by the lack of consequence of ones actions. If it happens once, it may as well not have happened at all. While the lack of consequence of our actions may make bring “lightness” to our actions, it is unbearable, because they have little (no) meaning. This is what I took from the book – though maybe as was said earlier – it is not so much in the movie. You have ignored this user.
