I posted this on the UG, but I figured some of you here would know more. I apologize in advance if this is not Sambo-related. These guys seem to be doing either San Da in karate gi's or Combat Sambo with long pants & no ground work. Whatever they're doing, there are some damn good fighters on this video. It'd be interesting to see some of them in MMA if they have ground skills. |

judoblackbelt & Lord Kancho, Glad you guys liked it. I asked Scott Sonnon about the video, & according to him it was ROSS Sport Fighting with ties to Combat Sambo. If anyone knows/sees Sambo Steve or dynamo around, I'd like to get their take on it. Thanks & ttt. |

I have seen that before. Just looks like some good fights. Best bet is to get someone to translate the opening credits (which I will do). Ross, combat sambo, who cares. Rules wise, it looks like san da to me. But who knows what the guys train, we are just watching a rule set. Looks like combat sambo (sport version) without the groundwork. |

SamboSteve - Here is the translation: Thanks for posting & translating Steve, much appreciated. When I saw it, it looked really interesting & I wanted to find out more. I didn't know that combat Sambo athletes took part in a rule set that didn't involve some sort of ground work. |

This is an old thread, but I found some info on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_hand-to-hand_fight "Army hand-to-hand fight" (Russian: ????????? ?????????? ???) — the Russian universal system of training to the protection and attack receptions, united many functional elements from an arsenal of world kinds of the single combats, tested in real fighting activity. The modern and quickly developing kind of the fighting single combats which have received popularity for full contact duels at the minimum traumas of sportsmen [1]. HistoryAs military-applied sport it is considered to be date of birth of Army hand-to-hand fight 1979 when in the city of Kaunas (the settlement Gajzhjunaj, military unit ? 42235) on sports base of 7th division of guards of Airborne troops has taken place the first championship of Airborne troops. Since then, the championships of Airborne troops on army hand-to-hand fight began to be spent annually. Created by experts and enthusiasts of physical preparation and sports of the Soviet army, Army hand-to-hand fight has been successfully introduced in the program of training and there was the basic component of forms of physical preparation[2]. It is necessary to note that carrying out of the first championship on Army hand-to-hand fight became possible thanks to long-term practice preceding it and experiments with various kinds of single combats. Among an invocatory contingent rated sportsmen and prize-winners of competitions on boxing, struggle, [judo] and others were carefully selected. Methodical work of fighters and commanders, also has impulsed to origin of system which is nowadays widely known under the name "Army hand-to-hand fight". At that point in time (the beginning of 1970th years) actual training of regular soldiers to hand-to-hand fight was called «as the Program of preparation of instructors in sports and special receptions of a landing» [3]. Rules of carrying out of duels and featureDistinctive part of sports Army hand-to-hand fight before other full contact single combats is possibility to finish the opponent lying on a carpet as hands, and feet from a standing position. Simultaneously with it, blows of the opponent lying on a carpet «Stop» ", as some kicks on a head though and protected by a special helmet, can lead to heavy damages should interrupt immediately the judge a command". Blows of the opponent by a foot in a head is a knock-down and to the fighter who has passed such blow, «the account» [4]. |

A friend pointed out to me that in the first video, they have done some manipulation, increasing the speed etc to make the fighters appear faster and quicker throws. |

Bull_in_chinashop - A friend pointed out to me that in the first video, they have done some manipulation, increasing the speed etc to make the fighters appear faster and quicker throws. Well that's annoying. Too bad they messed with the speed, the techniques were impressive in their own right. |
