i'm going goose hunting in may. Which choke should i get for my remington 870 super-magnum? any other pointers? |

If you use Hevi Shot go with a Strangler choke if you can get one. If not a Pattern Master both are great and I use a Super mag too. |

Ok now we have to get technical. As you know I'm a pro outdoor/gun writer so you would do well to go to www.foremosthunting.com and read the articles on shotgun ballistics and chokes. since you have the same gun as me, I would use 3 inch for geese with a Hevi-shot type load. 3.5 inch kick too much from a pump gun in a goose blind. Hevi-shot kills geese dead. You also need to get your ammo from Nitro Ammunition Company, takes about 3 days. It is expensive and make sure you are not getting lead shot, because you need non toxic shot for waterfowl. You will know when you have the right website they will say..Playtime is over. |

Goose hunting in May? I would use a modified choke personally, maybe full choke if you'e expecting mostly long shots, but NOT extra full with steel shot. Also some shells like black clouds have a wad that is supposed to contain the shot until it's out of the barrel anyway. I duck hunt with my 870 with 3" shells with a modified choked barrel, and I have no problem dropping the occasional goose with #2 black clouds at 30 yards or so. |
