I am 32 years old so a bit late to the game, but I'm interested in starting to train a martial art in London. My criteria for choosing a school are: 1. It has to be applicable to real life self-defense. 2. It should use live or close-to-live sparring. It seems to me it would be hard to learn to defend yourself without practicing defending yourself in training. 3. I'm interested primarily in learning a striking art. 4. I'm more interested in learning a traditional martial art than one of the newer MMA styles. While I'm old to be starting out, I'm strong, fit and athletic. I've done a bit of wrestling and BJJ in the past but never really a striking art. I've thought about Kyokushin, Wing Chun, etc but would really appreciate any specific info you have on training in these styles or others in London. Thanks. |

Kyokushin would likely be your best bet. Wing chun is fun but from your post I don't think it would be your thing. |

^Yes think of judo. just think that you are striking your opponent with the ground rather than your hands or feet. |
