Chael Sonnen has been trying to pick a fight with Anderson Silva like it is his job. Now Silva's Blackhouse teammate Lyoto Machida has in turn challenged Sonnen, via twitter. Machida posted in Brazilian Portuguese. Translation is below.

"Chael Sonnen, just got out of surgery, but can give you your gift inside the octagon with one arm and only you accept the fight."

Sonnen replied decorously, also via twitter.

"I don't have time for "pee pee" mouth. All the time I can spare him is enough to cold cock him and walk away."

The 'pee pee' reference is to a Machida family tradition of drinking urine. The practice, though unusual, has some notable adherents, including Mahatma Ghandi, J.D. Salinger, and that guy who cut his arm off after getting stuck on a desert hike.

When he is not driving Brazilian's crazy, Chael Sonnen is training for a fight with Mark Munoz on Jan. 28 at UFC on FOX 2.

Why should he sign on to fight Lyoto in a fight that won't main event when he is about to fight to be the #1 MW contender again?

If he beats Munoz, Anderson has to fight him or he looks like a coward. Then Sonnen can fight whomever he wants. And if that came to pass he should continue to talk smack on Blackhouse while refusing to fight anyone but Anderson. After all, if you call out of the biggest fish on the team are you really tucking by turning down a guy that has lost 3 of his last 4 fights?

This smells of Lyoto trying to stay relevant. Any holes he discovered in Jones are gone now. Shogun beat him twice (despite the blind judges). Rampage exposed his "elusive" style. Now he's picking on Middleweights.

I agree with your points that it wouldn't make sense for Sonnen to take this fight, and I also agree that Machida is probably investing in a little air time for himself here.

But it was hardly Machida "picking" on anyone. Sonnen runs his mouth off about Lyoto a lot, and has even called him out before.
