I never really got it. I think you have to be over 55. Clint Eastwood = cool. Steve McQueen = cool. Bronson = cool. John Wayne? I get that he was an icon, but I don't get what made him cool. His persona just isn't entertaining to me. Even from a young people appreciating old school stuff standpoint, I don't see it going over well. You could be like, "Hey, let's listen to all Sinatra tonight." or "Let's watch some Elvis movies for the fun of it." and most people would be up for it. But if you put on your Facebook status, "Hey guys! John Wayne marathon tonight!". Pretty sure nobody would show up. Probably think you're an asshole. |

'Cool' ? Not sure but he was a badass. and makes most "so called men" (i think men doesnt even fit...we'll just say males) of this era-that take just as long as women to get ready-look like a bunch of pussies.

I own somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 John Wayne movies. My opinion may be biased, but he is far more cool than Clint Eastwood could ever hope to be. |

Eastwood, McQueen, and Elvis are cool in the "I wish I could be like them" way. They are more like cool cousins and/or uncles. John Wayne is cool in a fatherly, mentor-type of way. He's got that "You don't necessarily want to be like him, but you respect the hell out of him" vibe. Bronson was never cool, imo. |
