"There was an employee walkout at a Walmart Supercenter in St. Cloud, Fla., on Wednesday morning, but even if you were shopping there when it happened you probably would have missed it. The walkout included just one worker -- Vanessa Ferreira, age 59. Ferreira informed her manager publicly Wednesday morning that she was going on strike. The other employees watched her walk out of the store, then went back to doing their jobs. Within a half hour, Ferreira would be told by police outside that she was trespassing and ordered to leave. She's worked in the store's cake department for eight years, and she earns $11.90 an hour, she said. "I love to decorate cakes," Ferreira said Wednesday. "That's my priority -- to do my cakes the best I can." As much as she loves her job, there's plenty Ferreira doesn't like about her employer. According to Ferreira, Walmart's wages are too low for workers to survive on, and the company keeps too many of its employees on part-time status, leaving them to rely on government assistance to get by."-------- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/21/walmart-strikes-black-friday_n_2174166.html?utm_hp_ref=business&icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D237658 |

If she was the only employee to walk out than it was just that. SHE walked out. That has nothing to do with an organized strike from an organized labor union.

It gives me hope for America that there are employees of wal-mart that have the ambition and intelligence to try and unionize. Whatever your feelings towards unions you have to agree it's complete horseshit that a fulltime employee at wal-mart gets paid so little the taxpayers have to subsidize their food bill. every tax payer should be pissed about that. the wal-mart heirs are worth as much as the bottom 41.5% of American families. |

She makes 12 bucks an hour to decorate cakes. And she's bitching? Thats a job a teenager would be doing 50 years ago. |

I don't have a lot of sympathy for her. She's been decorating cakes at walmart for 8 years? Does she not know she can moonlight her own little cake decorating business on the side by now? |

Her labor isn't worth more than her pay, I'm not sure why she thinks she deserves more money. If she's so valuable she should take her services elsewhere and get the money she deserves. |

It is truly amazing how many dupes advocate positions that are completely hostile to their own well-being. Perhaps they will get their way--a Wal-Mart SuperCenter every 8 blocks, Wal-Mart grocery/smaller center every 4 blocks, and a Wal-Mart corner store. . . These same people will continue to rally the cry--that's all they are worth, as jobs disappear, wages continue to decline, and any hope of leverage is gone as the monster acquires more ground. Of course, the schools will continue to go to shit, as Wal-Mart is notorious for paying no property taxes--part of the deal they strike with localities for all that great employment they bring, and the carrot of paying large sums of taxes when the subsidy sunsets. Of course, the subsidy doesn't sunset, as Walmart just threatens to leave and move . . . |

Again, I work in a large retail grocer, you get paid what your worth. I don't understand how people can try to argue otherwise. In the 3yrs I've been with my company I've taken every opportunity that's come along and I'm making double my starting wage. Sure I'm not a typical og'er living large, but I do OK. We have allot of people like this, these jobs are not for people trying to raise families with this for primary income, kids in/just out of school, retiree's, secondary income... oh and my department is unionized, I work every holiday, and receive 16hrs of holiday pay per year, and loose 13/week to the union. Insurance sucks, and the rest of the store gets treated identically to those in the union. Guess what your 1 member and the union has to maintain a relationship with the company, who do you think wins, def not your 13/week. You'd have to unionize against your union to get anything changed.
