"The males of most mammalian species have a definite urge towards seeking variety in their in sexual partners. In the laboratory this has been called the 'Coolidge Effect'. If a male rat is introduced to a female rat in a cage, a remarkably high sex rate will be observed at first. Then, progressively, the male will tire of that particular female and, even thought there is no apparent change in her receptivity, he eventually reaches a point where he has little apparent sex drive. However, if the original female is then removed and a fresh one supplied, the male is immediately restored to his former vigor and enthusiasm." What does the OG think about the Coolidge Effect? I think it applies to humans as well. Most guys would say "I wanna bang 100 hot chicks" instead of "I wanna bang one hot chick 100 times." Also the losing sex drive with the same partner would explain why married couples don't have sex as much as they used to. I'm not saying it's okay to cheat but at least there is definitive scientific evidence of the need for sexual variety amongst males. |

They should run the test again using the same mouse every time, but spray different varieties of mouse perfume, or put her in little mouse crotchless panties or something. Then we'd truly know if variety was the spice of life.

Then we'd truly know if variety was the spice of life. That was tried with different animals but not mice I believe. Here is what I found on that; "In the case of rams and bulls it is notoriously difficult to fool them that a female is unfamiliar. Attempts to disguise an old partner by covering her face and body or masking her vaginal odors with other smells are usually unsuccessful. Somehow she is identified as 'already serviced' and the male moves on to less familiar females." |

This is definitely interesting to me. I'm still doing the single thing right now because, although I'll confess it is less regular, I love the variety. The thought of being with the same woman for the next 5 years... 10 years... is terrifying to me. On one hand I'd love to find an awesome companion, but on the other hand I know I would have trouble always being with the same woman no matter how awesome she is. I feel like an asshole when I think about it but its the truth. Well, at least I can now blame it on my man-genes. |

Someone should publish a study about that, conclusion "If you put the same big mac before a guy day after day, it starts to not taste as good as it did before. The function of our innate evolutionary drive to reproduce with multiple partners is because it increases variation in the gene pool and results in healthy offspring, especially if the females have strong reproductive cues, like huge boobs and amazing booties. The instinct evolved because the males without the drive did not reproduce and their genetic traits were not passed on as often as the genes from alphas who were down to bone and make babies. This "Coolidge Effect" really means nothing in the context of all the other research out there that preceded it that already identified and isolated the drive and the purpose. The only problem is all that variation did not account for the personality trait differences, external influences, and social pressures that the ability to reason has created, so we do alter and restrict mating behavior because we it interferes with our value systems. The point is cheating is an evolutionary drive to reproduce that influences most of us, but we do have a value system that regulates it and so it can still be viewed as wrong. |

You can reproduce all you want without cheating. You don't even have to abide by the evolutionary instinct - you can fuck as many chicks as you want without reproducing (and cheating). Cheating is a whole another animal that stems from the thrill of the hunt and/or lack of self control. |
