http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20649973 Second attempt trying to post this. This cunt is all over the news here at the moment as she is going to high court to try and prevent her husband and the oncologists wishes to give her son the radiotherapy he requires for his brain cancer. She wants him to have "natural and alternative remedies instead". How can someone try and force their fucking hippy beliefs on their kid at the expense of his life I have no idea. |

Unfortunately this seems to be a growing thing where I live. Doing GP rotation and asking people what they've been doing about their problems and whether medication has helped them, often get told that they haven't taken the drugs and have opted for a homeopathic route as it's more natural. People are morons to be honest.

It would be OK if an adult decided to kill themselves, but parents/guardians have a legal and moral duty of care to anyone under their care. Fucking idiots |

Not GP, a&e doc. Did gp rotation whilst studying and also have a few friends who are gp's. The whole natural remedies etc.. Seem to be resurgent in the past five years or so however.

LordSeano - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20649973Marijuana cures cancer, you have chosen for others to speak for yourself. You don't have your own beliefs, just what certain people wanted you to believe. It's a shame so many people carry your attitude, but I see you.

I can understand wanting to try natural stuff or nothing at all for small things, I don't need medication every time I have a headache or something, but it's seriously selfish and unbelievably stupid to choose homeopathy over real treatment. |

If I got cancer I would be getting chemo, juicing 5kg of super duper veggies and fruits a day and getting that famous cannabis oil. |

THC might have some effects on some types of cancer but that's debatable. Any therapeutic properties are still far from being estabilished. Saying that "Marijuana cures cancer" exposes you as an ignorant hippy imo. |

So you have conducted some legit medical trials on this subject, or are you also just parroting someone else's beliefs? |

ChokeEmOut -BaldTony - It would be OK if an adult decided to kill themselves, but parents/guardians have a legal and moral duty of care to anyone under their care. Fucking idiots lol @ the irony. Chemo targets fast dividing cells and is therefore very effetive at erradicating certain types of cancers. That is a fact. Eating some grass while dancing in the rain has not been shown to be as effective. Fact. |

Supposedly, Steve Jobs went against his doctor's advice and tried the homeopathic-natural stuff to treat his cancer for a long time. By the time he realized it was bullshit, it was too late. So even brilliant people get suckered in by that shite. |

MickColins - Yup. He had a very treatable form of pancreatic cancer. By the time he decided to go to the doctors (when his homeopathic stuff failed) it had metastisized to various organs and he was on his way out. |

From a peer review oncolgy publicationHow Effective Is Chemo Therapy?AUSTRALIAN PAPER ON CHEMOTHERAPY An important paper has been published in the Australian journal Clinical Oncology. This meta-analysis, entitled "The Contribution of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to 5-year Survival in Adult Malignancies" set out to accurately quantify and assess the actual benefit conferred by chemotherapy in the treatment of adults with the commonest types of cancer. Although the paper has attracted some attention in Australia, the native country of the paper's authors, it has been greeted with complete silence on this side of the world. All three of the paper's authors are oncologists. Lead author Associate Professor Graeme Morgan is a radiation oncologist at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney; Professor Robyn Ward is a medical oncologist at University of New South Wales/St. Vincent's Hospital. The third author, Dr. Michael Barton, is a radiation oncologist and a member of the Collaboration for Cancer Outcomes Research and Evaluation, Liverpool Health Service, Sydney. Prof. Ward is also a member of the Therapeutic Goods Authority of the Australian Federal Department of Health and Aging, the official body that advises the Australian government on the suitability and efficacy of drugs to be listed on the national Pharmaceutical Benefits Schedule (PBS) — roughly the equivalent of the US Food and Drug Administration. Their meticulous study was based on an analysis of the results of all the randomized, controlled clinical trials (RCTs) performed in Australia and the US that reported a statistically significant increase in 5-year survival due to the use of chemotherapy in adult malignancies. Survival data were drawn from the Australian cancer registries and the US National Cancer Institute's Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) registry spanning the period January 1990 until January 2004. Wherever data were uncertain, the authors deliberately erred on the side of over-estimating the benefit of chemotherapy. Even so, the study concluded that overall, chemotherapy contributes just over 2 percent to improved survival in cancer patients. |
