For the essay, just put "put some 'tussin on it" and hope a black person grades your MCAT |

TIME MANAGEMENT MOTHERFUCKER.. (also the writing part is no longer on the MCAT). But seriously, figure out how much time you have per question for each part. Go through all the questions doing all the ones you're 80% sure you can do. Once you're done figure out how much time you have left per question remaining and go from there. |

Wrote it 10 years ago but: Have time goals (at this question by this time). Fill in the answers while doing the questions don't leave it to the end (may not be applicable now). Guess if you don't know the answer. Don't stress too much, MCAT isn't that difficult. Write a good and memorable personal statement. Good PS have a theme imo. |

Ravens55 - Hey, aspiring physician here. About to take my MCAT the 26th of April. Any advice for the test/ applying to med school is greatly appreciated. Take REAL AAMC PRACTICE TESTS. They are incredibly predictive/valid. If you aren't averaging at least 30, w/ 10 or better in each section, HOLD OFF AND DO NOT SIT FOR THE REAL EXAM. Apply EARLY. Like immediately after AMCAS opens. If your LORs, etc become delayed, sit out a year. Absolute worst thing you can do it get late. Unlike most undergrad programs, med school=rolling admissions. They start interviewing and filling the class as soon as the applications are released. Get late and you will interview for a wait list spot at best. |

Trust me on this: google the student doctor network MCAT plan, can't remember the name exactly but it's like a 90 day study setup that incorporates review and test prep. Which brings me to the main point: Princeton review is better than Kaplan, but the Berkeley Review series is by far the best, and it's not even close. Their ordering system was a bit arcane but the content is without question the best I found. Use those books, the SDN testing schedule including the AAMC and Berkeley practice exams, and get ready for a miserable 3 months, and you will just about guarantee yourself 30 on your MCAT. Worked for me and I got into an excellent MD/PhD program. Good luck

Listen here terrell suggs, do you know the BIGGEST difference between successful people and this guy http://fullym.com/files/2013/01/dc_homeless_winter01.jpg ? The biggest difference (besides any mental health issues), is what they do when they 'hit a wall'. Stop being a pussy and get to work. |

Good luck I would agree with ColbyBJJ here- just be careful on SDN as it isn't always a representative sample of all the people studying to take the test. While their advice is good on the whole, some will exaggerate their scores/effort to mess with people. Take it with a grain of salt essentially. I did fine on the MCAT with far less prep time than suggested here, though had I followed this study plan I am sure I wouldve done better. I took it after about 3 weeks of concentrated time to try and get in my applications early- GForce alluded to the rolling admissions nature of the application cycle, and this is something to keep in mind. Taking it in April will allow you to get your scores back in May and should keep you on the early-side of things. But make sure your practice test (Princeton Review, AAMC official practice tests) are at least hitting an average over 30 before you take the test. It seems daunting but there are far more difficult tests and experiences on the road to becoming a physician. The MCAT is just the first step. Buckle down, give it your all and good luck. |
