Esqueçam o Jerome Le Banner, oa dversário de Mike Tyson no dia 31 de Julho será o desconhecido boxeador Kevin McBride. From Boxing Central - Rich DiBona "Former world heavyweight champion and still the biggest draw in the sport, “Iron” Mike Tyson has set a date to return to the ring. On the 31st of July, Tyson is planning to get in with Kevin McBride (31-4-1, 26KOs). Although relatively unknown, McBride is a giant with an 82” reach, standing at 6’6” and 260 pounds. Tyson’s manager, Shelly Finkel said he believes the fight will be finalized next week. Finkel’s plan was to have Tyson fight a pair of tune-up bouts, followed by a mega fight against Joe Mesi in Madison Square Garden at the end of the year. That may have to be altered if Mesi’s medical condition is as bad as rumors say. "We should have something definite by next week," said Finkel. "There's a lot of anticipation for him to come back." Finkel said he is still working to secure a venue and is deciding on the television broadcast. The mixed martial arts company K-1 will be promoting the event that may end up on pay-per-view. It could also end up on Showtime. "We're in the negotiating process now," said Showtime's Jay Larkin. "But this is by no means an announcement." Freddie Roach, who trained Tyson in his last fight against Clifford Etienne 14 months ago, will be back in his corner this time around. While in preparation for the 49 second destruction of Etienne, the Roach-Tyson training camp broke up a week before the fight due to a money problem with Tyson and Showtime. "We had a good camp the last time before the last week," said Roach. "The division is not good and he knows he can get in shape and beat any of these guys." Roach will begin training Tyson in about a month. He is currently getting Virgil Hill ready for this fight with Jean-Marc Mormeck for the WBA cruiserweight title. Until then, Tyson will be training on his own in Arizona. "I think he can beat any of the four guys out there that are champions," said Roach. "He just needs to have discipline and get in shape." McBride has been picked as a walkover opponent. Tyson should have little trouble with him, but in this sport and especially with Tyson, you never know what is going to happen. McBride is from Clones, Ireland, but now resides in Brockton, Massachusetts, hometown of heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano. McBride has only been in with good competition on 2 occasions. Both were disastrous. In 1997 McBride was stopped by Alex Schulz in 9. Then in 2002, even though he was outweighed by 60 pounds, DaVarryl Williamson stopped McBride in 5. He has also been stopped by Louis Monaco (13-27-4, 6 KOs) and Michael Murray(16-26, 9 KOs). Since 1996, Murray is 1-17, with McBride being his only win." So the fight will be a conventional boxing match, on a card promoted by K-1, against a non K-1 fighter. It should be announced "Officially" on tonights K-1 PPV show
