to answer the questions Kirik had asked: The sport is legal and sanctioned here. Reality Combat runs shows in Louisiana www.realitycombat.tv The FFC runs shows near the border in Mississippi, but often draws competitors from Louisiana. The best all around NHB team is Team Voodoo out of Slidell. In New Orleans, Ancona has a good boxing program and NOLA BJJ has good bjj (go figure). The most "known" fighters are Rich Clementi and Melvin Guillard. Overall, the sport is really thriving in this area. |

Hey, I don't post here much, but do lurk a good bit. I've got a small MMA school here in New Orleans, open full time, but no one that competes. I've tended to emphasize self-defense aspects most in advertising, although we do have a boxing, wrestling, BJJ base. Our weapons work has been most influenced by Dog Brothers/Pekiti Tirsia. Me and a couple of friends used to be there but now we are all in Kuwait for uncle sam. There's still a small group in North Louisiana, and it's still growing. I've actually met some guy who says he's a blue under Xavier. Hope the sport grows more and more while I'm gone. |
