We've been having some hellacious storms here lately, and last week I thought lightning struck my house. It actually hit the tree next door, travelled all the way down, somehow went underneath the road and up another tree across the street, and blew a root out of the ground. It was insane...the tree across the street has the same kind of 'carving' on it, but only goes up a couple of feet. You can't tell in this pic, but these markings start at the very top.. Tip of the day..don't mess with mother nature!

gpe - I asked a tree guy the same thing, the only thing he could think of is that there are some long roots under the road...these are huge pines. It just travelled along the root system somehow. I'll try and get a pic of the other tree. |
