In America, a person is tried by his peers. If the jurors give a criminal the Death Penalty, should it be a public execution? Is there any ramifications from a public display of said execution? |

Watching someone get their head chopped off would probably deter someone from committing the same crime. Too many people glorify prison for some folks to take it seriously. |

"PPV indeed. All proceeds go to the families of the victim." I could be sold on that. I wouldn't want to watch but I understand others wanting to. |

I think it should probably be reserved for family of the criminal, victims and their families. |

I think it should be reserved for the public, like in the old days when people would get tarred, an hung. It will teach young criminals in the making not to fuck with the system |

"In America, a person is tried by his peers. If the jurors give a criminal the Death Penalty, should it be a public execution? Is there any ramifications from a public display of said execution?" executions here traditionally were public. For some reason now they're not. I think they should be. |

public access, not ppv...it wouldn't be for the deterrent factor. it would be to open up and expose the nature of the practice in its true form. |

I guess the argument depends on what you think the function of capital punishment is. Is it a method of 'deleting' someone who has no hope of rehabilitation? Or is it mostly a method of deterrence? If capital punishment's value is mostly the first then it really doesn't matter if it is public or private. On the other hand if the death penalty is supposed to deter other would-be criminals then not publicizing it limits this effect. The question would then become whether or not everyone would be 'forced' to watch it or not. I think they should be public events if we're going to have capital punishment. I like the idea of PPV and the proceeds going to the victim's family. Also, I think someone in the victim's family should be given the option of pulling the lever, pushing the button, or firing the shot. |
