I guess the argument depends on what you think the function of capital punishment is. Is it a method of 'deleting' someone who has no hope of rehabilitation? Or is it mostly a method of deterrence? If capital punishment's value is mostly the first then it really doesn't matter if it is public or private. On the other hand if the death penalty is supposed to deter other would-be criminals then not publicizing it limits this effect. The question would then become whether or not everyone would be 'forced' to watch it or not. I think they should be public events if we're going to have capital punishment. I like the idea of PPV and the proceeds going to the victim's family. Also, I think someone in the victim's family should be given the option of pulling the lever, pushing the button, or firing the shot. You have ignored this user.
