I think it's kinda rad in it's own shitty way. And really, you picked somewhat of a complicated pic, spend a little more time with the basics.

someone REALLY has to photoshop the drawing of gomi's head onto stuff

THAT would be awesome

and it would be done as a tribute, not an insult

You should seriously make this a series. Make one with Crazy Horse yelling out Gomi's name after a win in Bushido with a ghost like reflection of Gomi's big face in the background.

Screw it. I'll draw it this weekend.

Solid effort. This stuff takes tons of effort and practice and the more you learn, the more you realize how much MORE you need to learn. It's awesome and frustrating all at once.

The big thing that alot of people struggle with in the beginning is simplifying what they see. Breaking it down -and trying to understand what is happening. Yeah -you might not be an anatomy expert over night, but you can figure out : "Okay - the light source is directly above them, so let's first break up the figures into light and shade" This pic is a little tricky, because the lights are so bright that when the reflect off the white ring floor, it bounce lots of light into the shadow. That could be difficult.

Either way - keep at it. The little milestones you will make are ridiculously awarding, and you will be addicted to them.

Sandy Panties... a serious tip. Try the same drawing again, but take the original pic into photoshop or some simple graphic editor, and flip it upside down. Now, when you're using it as reference material, draw it as being upside down. Obviously when you're done you will turn it right side up to see how you've done.

It will probably look better, lots of people have a tough time drawing, especially faces, and this seems to help a lot since you no longer see the shapes on the reference material as "eyes" or "noses" etc, you begin to see them more as lines and shadows. If you did that already then I dunno.

shoman - your stuff would wind up in a museum 10x faster than mine. you actually did a phenomenal job with perspective. keep at it brother!

Hey Evan.  I appreciate the compliment, but I firmly believe you're entirely full of shit.  I'm just a doodler, but my fiance is an art major, and I've picked up a lot from her and having her drawings and paintings plastered all over the house.  Thanks again for the kind words, and the note on the perspective.  Gomi's left arm is too long though.

Thanks to JOB and Card as well.

when it comes to art i wouldn't bs you. looking at it the first thing i notice is the negative space which you really dialed into. yeah the detail needs some tuning but that is micro managing. 1st and foremost is being able to grab the perspective. not looking at the photo as gomi and bang but instead as a bunch of shapes making a drawing come together. that's how i work. anyone can do detail if you put enough time in. shit, everyone tells me that all the time i post on sherdog. but not everyone can get negative spece down and you deal a really good job on that.

Hey man, I was thinking about you when I decided NOT to draw Bang's tattoo.  I always had trouble with perspective and anatomy, and I actually have been trying to do the things that are the absolute hardest for me, so in other words, the stuff that turns out the worst.

pigpen- Novel idea, and I would only take it as a tribute.

Hojak- Feel free to "berate" me if you'd like, but I thought I'd already made fun of myself enough for people to realize I'm not too sensitive about my artistic skills.  I don't have anything against you really... when you say stupid shit that I disagree with, I'll probably tell you, and I would expect you to do the same.

KPK and Hamzeh-  Thank you both for the kind words and advice.  I just printed this out in black and white with no sharpening or anything, and tried to replicate it freehand.  I'm not serious about drawing, but it's something I occassionally enjoy, and with some extra time on my hands I'm trying to force myself to write, draw, and/or read for a little bit every day.  I'm rarely motivated to draw something to be proud of, and actually it's really rare that I ever even finish a drawing.  I will absolutely heed your advice for any future drawings.

It sounds like you guys draw a little... care to post any of your work?  I've obviously set the perfect stage for you here on this thread.  It can't really get any worse.

Thanks again, man.  I would consider you an authority on MMA art, and you have the same amazing ability that my fiance has of being able to capture a person's face perfectly.  I absolutely detest details in any way, shape, or form because of the micro-managing and attention to detail required that you mentioned.  I tried to choose subject matter without painstaking details, but then I immediately lose interest and think it's boring.

So I've been challenging myself with drawings that I suck at, basically.  I know that I could put together a much better drawing if I did put in more time and effort, or use a grid, or even use a better reference than a black and white print-out... but I'm really just kinda fucking around.

I have a lot of respect for you and your work though, so I really appreciate your kind words.

drawing is like fighting, with practice you can refine your skills, but if its not in you....it will never be in you

Sorry dude, but I just have to chime in here. The fact that you posted this pic means that you obviously want to make people laugh and I am greatful to you for this. I have LMAO this morning.

The pic would not be that bad if you said you were mildly retarded or it was done by putting a pencil up your a$$ and squating on a piece of paper.

Better than anything I could do but then again I cant draw worth of shiat anyway.

tks again for posting this.

cheers
