Forgive me in advance if this is already common knowledge but I was told by a friend from TQ who trains with him and sponsors him that he got dropped by the UFC. They were paying him a lot of money and that is obviously the impetus behind the move.
I think it's a crap move. Sok lost 2 fights to very quality opponents. I mean who has beaten Machida? Thierry's likely next destination is Japan where he is still popular.

He still has potential but he probably was just not worth the contract at this time.

LOL @ this. Sokoudjou has no chance of ever doing anything in the UFC.
The 205 division is stacked. He has decent power, no heart, and no cardio.
His wins over Arona and Rogerio were impressive, but flukey. Houston Alexander-esque, even.
Such a waste of talent.
i agree. he was thrown to the wolves to fast. he really needs a few more years of maa . he will be back in the UFC. He has lots of talent , just needs to refine his skillz

The guy is still young and learning. He is nowhere near what he will be in his prime. I'll accept the critique of his cardio. But to say he has no heart, I think that's bullshit and you have no justification to say that.

If his claimed birthdate is actually true, he's very young and has plenty of time to work on his weaknesses.. i.e. ground game, cardio.

He's working on his ground game. Last week I saw him working leg locks and knee-bars with a trainer.

I don't understand dropping Sok from a business point of view unless his contract was ridiculously high. He's a guy who had the potential to become a TV and PPV draw. Why? He doesn't look like everyone else and he has KO highlight reel power. People remember him. How many people can pull Jon Fitch out of a line up?
I have a feeling this isn't the last we see of Sok in the UFC. He'll be back in the future.. maybe a few years.

Heath Sims said that Sok wanted to fight Bispeng when he first signed, but the UFC didn't want Sok to smash the guy they were trying to build up. Seriously, who has Bispeng fought that is in the caliber of Sok's 2 UFC losses?

Some fighters get the star treatment and some guys get thrown to the wolves immediately. It's not fair, but maybe it has something to do with what each of those guys are being paid.
You want to accept a smaller contract and we'll build you up slowly with low to mid tier opponents. You want the big bucks, you'll have to sink or swim against guys like Machida and Cane.

I love watching this guy fight, such a sick style. That's bullshit if he was indeed dropped.

Sok looked really good in Pride but just hasn't lived up to it in the UFC. I mean watching his last fight he looked strong and fast, but he really didn't show any technique at all. He's supposed to be a black belt in Judo, you wouldn't have known it. Yeah he's a power striker, but he was just throwing single strikes. He never threw combinations, never set anything up. The guy clearly has talent, but looks like he needs more time to develop it.

SOK looked like a shit sandwhich in the UFC.
I was pumped to see him in there but he was a super disapointment to me.
I hope he can get a few wins a come back strong!

He walked into a contract making more money than he probably was worth at the time. He was pretty hyped after his Pride days. I wish UFC would have stuck with him a little longer but he'll find a new home.

sok has hasd very weak cardio since his competitive judo days. when he was competing in judo, the strategy was to survive with him for the first 3 minutes until he faded and then begin to pick him apart.
in the last 7 or so years, nothing has changed. its difficult for a guy with the muscle mass that sok has to get his conditioning up to the level he needs it to be at.
hector lombard is another super muscular guy who pays for his power in cardio.

James Irvin is in the $16K range
Houston Alexander is in the $8-10K range
Vanderli is $150,000 to show
wilson Gouevia is in the $16 k range

Haulport - Jake4 - Brice W - He is one of my favorite fighters to watch, too bad he was cut. Hopefully he goes to DREAM and drops a big name or two there.
really? based on what?
His 2 fights in the UFC were amazingly boring. His only claim to fame is his fight with Arona. I can't see how this one fight has made him anyone's favorite to watch.
You don't even know wtf you are talking about idiot. STFU

Yeah, pretty sure his KTFO win over Lil Nog was what propelled his career, but then again, I won't blame you for not knowing who Lil Nog is.

It makes sense. You get paid more, you have more to live up to. Sok was pretty much a nobody when he knocked out Lil Nog. He was coming off that win when he signed with the UFC and hasn't impressed since, imo.
