Quoteworthy:
"For the last three fights, I've walked in cages feeling that I was going to die. If anybody has gone through a panic attack, a full-blown panic attack with your mind racing where you feel like putting a bullet in your brain just to escape it, it terrifies you. You're shaking off of it. I've walked in and fought Thiago Alves like that. I told myself I will never, ever walk in a cage or do anything where it counts in my life if I'm feeling like this again. I'm better. I'm in a better place. I feel mentally way better than I was a year and a half ago. I've just changed my entire life around."
Karo Parisyan feels he's in a better place now that his inner demons have gone away. The problems with Parisyan can be traced back to 2008 when "The Heat" revealed that he was diagnosed with panic attacks. The Armenian was scheduled to meet Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106, but after being pulled from the card the day before weigh-ins, UFC President Dana White gave Parisyan the boot. Now that Karo is back in the UFC, will he be able to make some noise at UFC 123 this Saturday night (Nov. 20) against Dennis Hallman? Or has "The Heat" died out?

I hope it's true, and I wish him the best. He was doing very well against Alves, considering the circumstances, if this is true.

Tell me if this crosses any ethical lines but I say we bet on Hallman and then call Karo and yell "PANIC ATTACK" all night I have his number. Does anyone have tickets near the walkway also as you could probably take a sign or yell at him from there too

So when actually did he get to "a better place"? He fought in July in Australia, where his fight had to be re-scheduled and he was acting very nervously at the presser.

That's unfortunate for him if he suffers from panic attacks (if it's true)...however maybe he shouldn't be competing if he goes through this. Three fights in a row this has happened.
Bulletin: I will be competing in some skeet shooting competitions later this year, I have convulsions on occasion, but there should be nothing to worry about.

He had figured out what the problem was. Saturday we will find out if he figured out how to fix it.

saemskin - Karo and Tito have something in common.
Excuses.
We're not his counselors. Not shut the hell up and fight or go away.
You chose this for your 5th post? Imagine if you had panic attacks working at your job at Burger King. You wouldn't be able to function right and flip the burgers correctly. The head burger maker walks up to you and says, "I'm not your counselor. Now shut the hell up and make burgers or go away."

Panic disorder is real and it convinces you that you are dying from a cardiac event. Treatment for panic disorder comprises a huge portion of the mental health therapy and pharmaceutical industry. If you have never had a full blown panic attack (which come out of nowhere and are totally unrelatd to just being a nervous unconfident guy) then shut the fuck up.

RickMartelsArrogance - War Karo!
Like him or not, he ALWAYS puts on an entertaining fight and by far has some of the most exciting grappling at any weight class. Glad to see Karo has worked through his problems and gotten another shot to prove himself. Hallman is a tough test for Karo to return to, but I see him taking a 30-27 win.
actually i thought his last couple of fights were boring as fuck. the chonan fight was a snoozer and there was a big uproar on here about him not going for the finish anymore and fighting safe. if the panick attacks are to blame, i am glad he has rid himself of his problems. but he better come out banging against hallman. trigg blew hallman out the water. karo was a contender not long ago. he needs to finish hallman or dominate in exciting fashion. not just blanket and smother him.

Man, it would be awesome to have the old Karo back. That garbage he was dealing with is terrible. I'd rather be nursing a sore knee after surgery than feeling scared shitless all the time.

Snarl Snatch - Have you ever tried to fight while having a panic attack?
Yes. It sucks. I've also fought with injuries and plenty of other crappy situations. I also had to go to work everyday, the whole time wanting to steer my truck into oncoming traffic. I didn't get to just go home if I was panicky, I didn't just have one day where I needed to be at my best, it was EVERY FUCKING DAY ALL DAY.
I never used it as an excuse for being a shithead. When I fucked up because of it, I owned my fuckup, I fixed it, and I didn't whine about it.
you are either trying way too hard to be an e-toughguy, or you have only had very mild panic.
severe PAD is no joke, and you don't have a choice. its not something you can just "get over" or "suck it up"...thats the shit people who don't have it or have never had a severe panic attack say.
true panic attacks can often end in syncope...which usually results in someone calling an ambulance because you appear to have just had a heart attack or stoke. its happened to me more than once. you can't just force your way through something that takes away your motor skills and consciousness. severe attacks are not "feeling a little panicky"...they are debilitating, uncontrollable, and can shut down your senses.
a lot of people with PAD become agoraphobic for those very reasons.
I've trained, fought, sailed 2 week open water crossings, ridden rollercoasters, etc...many things that could have gone terribly wrong if a panic attack had come on...luckily, it never happened in the middle of something major like that...always while doing something mundane, like driving, or in a movie theater.
its very common for people with severe PAD to view suicide as preferable to suffering through it because of the loss of control, and the sporadic nature of attacks.
point is, its not a "choice".

Snarl Snatch - If you let the panic attack get out of hand, then you'll lose control...if he had had a full on panic attack, he would've been KO'ed or submitted...he didn't, so that's not what we're talking about.
If you want to be sympathetic with him, that's fine, but I don't. You CAN calm yourself down if you figure out how. I did.
I do sympathize with him...I'm surprised you don't if you've had PAD. as you said, I learned to calm myself before they got completely out of control too eventually...but it took a while, a lot of trial and error and OCD-like behavior.
for me, it was out of control for about a year, then tapered off after trying all kinds of lifestyle changes, mental exercises, etc and eventually settling into some effective counter behaviors.
but for that first year I had no idea how to stop it or when it was going to hit, or escalate into full blown syncope. I was kind of in denial, thinking I could just force my way through it, shake it off, or wait it out without having to stop what I was doing (karo likely has been doing the same)...but during that time (especially the few months after I developed the disorder), they generally ended in syncope or injury. even later, after I learned to cap them, I was never sure if they were going to escalate into a full blown attack, and was only capable of the most basic functionality (work/training-wise) until it passed.
I have had attacks at work or in the gym that didn't escalate to full syncope, but there was no forcibly scaling them back down from where they were...until I slept or rested I just functioned in a kind of stunned delirium, almost feeling high or drunk, often with numb extremities and no reflexes. almost how you feel after an explosion or close lightning strike.
I can easily see how karo could have experienced the same thing and had some bad showings.
I don't like watching shitty performances or boring fights either, but I do sympathize with the guy on a personal level and hope he gets it under control.
