Early this week, BJ Penn said that his fight with Nick Diaz would not be personal, but just business. The UFC star went as far as to claim that the UFC production staff had also forced him to make statements regarding the Strikeforce champion that he necessarily didn't want to say:

they forced me to say, at the end of the whole thing, they forced me to say... 'You gotta say Nick Diaz's name now, you gotta say his name.' And I was like, 'What?' They were like, 'Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz. Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz.' And I said, 'I'm going to beat Nick Diaz.'

The complete video blog can be viewed here: youtube.com/officialBJPenn

When asked to comment on BJ's accusation, Dana White was adamant that the story was not true. To back up his point, the UFC President supplied the raw and uncut footage of the interview directly to MixedMartialArts.com:

 Didn't sound forced.  lol

That's just a good production crew making sure they get the right soundbite.

He did ask if he was going to beat Diaz. That's pretty much asking him to say he is going to do that. Read between the lines and whatnot. I still support BJ on this.

fuck all the petty bullshit surrounding this,  I just can't wait for the fight

you really don't need this fabricated drama to get hyped for a match up like this

we know both guys put it all on the line, and this one has all the makings of a classic

So let me get this straight, this is the Primetime crew telling BJ to say he was going to beat Nick Diaz?

Come on BJ, that isn't even close to what you said happened. Now is it possible that they said a whole bunch of stuff before that but it doesn't seem like they needed to do anything other than ask questions. And of course they are going to show Diaz that he said he would beat him. Why wouldn't they? But does it sound like this happened?

"they forced me to say, at the end of the whole thing, they forced me to say... 'You gotta say Nick Diaz's name now, you gotta say his name.' And I was like, 'What?' They were like, 'Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz. Say you're going to beat Nick Diaz.' And I said, 'I'm going to beat Nick Diaz."

I just wonder why BJ said all that to begin with. I mean if it was true, the UFC wouldn't be too happy. And if it wasn't then the UFC wouldn't be too happy either and they might have footage to prove otherwise. Just doesn't seem like a smart thing to do regardless, especially when there is footage of what happened and it doesn't support the claims made by BJ.

Only thing I can think of is he was trying to keep things cool with Diaz and Co. I just don't know why though.

Granted it wasn't an open question but BJ could have merely replied "Yes" and then add something to turn it into a neutral response. He chose of his own free will to make it a sound bite that could used in the promotion.

The footage does support him claims. BJ didn't lie. That was how he saw it.

Real shit.

What you kool-aid drinkers have forgotten is BJ's original story. It DID not go down like he said it did. Derp.

"They forced me to say it. You gotta say his name." etc. A side effect of poi kool-aid overdose is selective reality and denial.

BJ clearly says Diaz' name in that interview.

This is all part of the plan. Soon Dana will announce that the Daiz/Penn fight is off because Penn is unreliable. Next they will announce that to punish him they will take Diaz out and put Conduit in against Penn. Then a few days later they will announce that GSP will be fighting Diaz. So obvious! I called this when GSP fought Serra the first time. It was then its obvious now. Phone Post
