Yeah, just look at how much more exciting Trigg's fight with Misaki in Pride was then his fights where he was allowed elbows.

And look how boring the Cain fight was, or Loiseau's fight with Tanner, or any of Jones' fights.

"I'm an NHB fan at heart"

Yeah, obviously.

Can you tell me some fights made boring by elbows?

I think, like ANYTHING, it can go either way.

There are some who stay conservative in position and range and just eat away lightly with short elbows. Thats fair game, to wear someone out but I suppose the question is if they will ever try and posture up and go for bigger shots or advance position.

You named some of the best elbow throwers above there but all techiques and their throwers, they arent all created equally.

Barragan -
Blazing Knees -
CoolnDeadly - Elbow Pads!!!!! Problem Solved!

its a grappling disadvantage. gives grip, something to grab onto

That doesn't make any sense. How would it be a disadvantage if both fighters required elbow sleeves?f

for arm bars. triangles shit like that, judo throws it's hard to grab a sweaty shaved arm with no grip

Agree on the elbow ban. Aj is right and also agree there are too many cavemen in here that live that cut inducing elbow shit. Like another poster said, pride had awesome fights without them. Hope AJ makes some progress on his campaign.

AJDavis - This is not the first time I have stated that Elbows on the ground should not be allowed, for the same reasons I have already stated here.
Anyone saying that Bigfoot is not a top athlete will be swallowing his words in the very near future.
My guys have just come off recent losses, Rousimar Vs Belcher, Barboza vs Varner, for example, and no excuses were made. Their opponents were simply the better fighters on these occasions. And I am not even making an excuse for Bigfoot, just stating a fact, he could not see due to the cut, or any of the above posters think other wise?

lol at this when Palhares has already made an excuse about his loss to Belcher, made an excuse when he lost to Nate and Bigfoot also made an excuse when he lost to Cormier.

Every single time man, every single time. Give it a rest. Cain smashed Bigfoot and would of smashed him just as badly without the cut.

Right on. JBJ is the only guy that comes to mind with exciting elbows. The ONLY one before him was goodridge when he smashed the wannabee ninja. Horn's step-bro, IIRC.

And Cain would have won the fight anyways, IMO.

Goodridge smashed Paul Herrera iirc who was a wrestler from Tank Abbot's huntington crew, dont think he has any relation to Horn.

Also you dont remember the Crows elbows back in the day? GSP was using em back then too.

there have been literally dozens of exciting finishes by elbows. Saying there have only been a couple just exposes your lack of mma knowledge.

EckY - The problem with cuts from elbows is that many guys will jsut look to cut using short elbows with the sharp point of their elbow.

Short elbows on the ground do not need a lot of impact to cause bad cuts that bleed a lot, where as knees, kicks and punches generally are thrown to cause knockouts, yes they do cause cuts but people dont throw them specifically looking to cut guys.
100% agree. Was disappointed to see Cain throwing elbows intended to cut up.

Whatever though, I guess it's his decision to make. Elbows sliding across the forehead can cut you from any position, standing or whatever. I say equalize the terms and give the opponent on the bottom more weapons by legalizing up kicks to a fighter in top control/in the guard. Phone Post

Why did Bigfoot try and kick a much faster takedown specialist?

Who are the "boring" elbowers and why exactly would they not just throw boring pitter-pat body-body-head punches if elbows were not allowed?

"Elbows sliding across the forehead can cut you from any position, standing or whatever. I say equalize the terms and give the opponent on the bottom more weapons by legalizing up kicks to a fighter in top control/in the guard."

Is there some reason things aren't already equal due to the bottom fighter being allowed to throw elbows too? Florian cut Lauzon with elbows from the bottom, Riggs cut Lytle with an elbow from the bottom.

That's right, it was Herrera. Oh, and I forgot about the crows. But yeah, when it comes to the sliders trying to cut, it's just stupid. Yeah, it's allowed, but it's just so, I don't know, cheap, maybe?

There is a reason that elbows are called the body's razor, and fist and feet aren't. But there have been some truly nasty cuts without elbows, too. Ax wound looking things.

The sport is looking more and more like WWE's brawl for all, basically just kickboxing with takedowns, and now you get the lay-n-prays who can only hold down and elbow, and nothing else. No ground elbows just seem to make people work to improve position and actually fight.

But a lot of it is personal opinion, and is much too subjective a subject to argue seriously about.

And I'll forgive this, just because MC Peepants is one of my favorite rappers. And you seem to be kinda new here.

Beezulbubba - Elbows just make a fight so damn boring. In fights without them, they have to actually fight. Cuts happen, but I watch UFC because they're the big name, but for action, I'd much prefer watching SF, Bellator, Pride re-runs, etc. The action flow is just so much better.

Elbows aren't the only reason for this, as people fight not to lose instead of fighting to win in the UFC for fear of being cut, emphasis on TDs puts Lay-N-Pray as a favored judging outcome, etc.

I'm an NHB fan at heart, but the elbows should go.

JBJ is one of the few that can make good use of his elbows.
You're a nhb fan at heart yet you are calling for a ban on elbows? That doesn't even make sense.

How the hell can you say elbows make fights boring? Yeah, vicious ground and pound with smashing elbows is so boring.

So Mr nhb fan, anything else you want bared from the sport? I've seen some pretty bad cuts from knees too. Maybe we should bar knee strikes. Lots of accidental eye pokes too. Maybe we should bar the grappling aspect and get rid of those fingerless gloves. And you know what?? The gloves are too small. Those things cause major damage. We should probably go ahead and replace them with 16 oz boxing gloves. Would this make the sport safe enough for you nhb fan? Phone Post
