Everyone was SUPER pissed at Anderson after the Maia fight, and even DFW said he would cut Anderson if he fought that way again.  Look at what time has healed.
After the spectacular Vitor KO, the Chael Sonnen comback triangle and the complete dismantling of Chael in the rematch, no one ever talks about Abu Dhabi and the Maia fight anymore.

If Jon Jones can stay on track, keep being the amazing fighter that he's shown himself to be inside the octagon in EVERY single fight he's ever had, and continue to improve at the staggering rate that he's shown so far, in 2 fights no one will talk about this cancelled fight.

The man is young, and he's made a mistake or two, but he's still got all the potential to go down in history as an all time great, if not THE all time great.

I agree but I think Jones has maturing to do and shed anyone giving him bad advice from now on.

Silva's Abu Dhabi fight still bothers a lot of people I know. However, he has redeemed himself in my eyes.

As for Jones, as any Laker fan knows performance heals all wounds.

We love stories of redemption. This may be one of the largest ever faced by the UFC.

All of that does not negate the fact that he just is not all that likeable. He has become the guy that I will always watch to see him get beat and he never will, costing me a lot of money just like Tyson did.

He was already hated before this though, and he will be after. It's just more fuel to the fire.

Also, tell Dana that there seems to be a little bit of interest in the Fedor vs Brock fight. Make that happen and I will feel however the fuck they want me to about Jones.

I hope so. Even after the Leites, Cote and Maia fight, Anderson was still a likeable character.
Jones on the other hand, has no redeeming features so it will take a lot for him to win over the fans.

Dont doubt Jones as fighter, its hard to knock the guy the way he keeps dismantling people, but the guy is about as likeable as hemorrhoids.

Jones will be the first UFC superstar to attempt to self promote. He is a big "Money Mayweather" clone in the making.

I am a huge fan of Jones the fighter, not the person...

The difference between Anderson and Jones is that Anderson doesn't talk much and also he ain't pretending to be a saint.

Silva pissed fans with his antics inside the octagon and erased them with those.

Jones pissed fans with his antics outside the octagon and that will stay with him forever.
Unless he shuts up, which he won't.

Dude's already levels above Anderson in what he has achieved in the UFC.

Left Machida for dead (Brutal finish), Had Shogun tapping to strikes AFTER the fight got stopped due to him giving Shogun the beating of a lifetime (NOBODY has done that), Tapped out Rampage (How many people do that?), Owned Rashad, Will probably KO Vitor, Will probably maul Hendo like he did Shogun...

Anderson has just not done those kind of things to the elite.

Among the community on this forum he may have been hated, and perhaps in your own personal circles. He wasn't as much outside these inclusive groups. But, what he has done is make the casual to moderate fan hate him. this is entirely redeemable and appeals to people. Why? The public like to see people grow as human beings and continue to perform at a high level. When the individual prevails as a human being, it is much easier to celebrate their sporting accomplishment. At this point though the poor kid is still self destructing via social media. He needs to sit back and reflect. And close his damn mouth for now.

I actually still hold a little animosity toward Silva over that one. But it's a fair point, as I'll be the first to say he is the greatest we have seen so far. Likewise, JBJ is an amazing talent to watch in action even if he personally rubs me the wrong way sometimes.

I think the mark will be remembered, and for a different reason. All logic in me says Jones had this fight in the bag if he took it. And with his recent comments about not being excited about the Machida rematch and being in the sport for the money his decision makes even less sense.

Greatness doesn't mean it comes without flaws though. Ali (the man JBJ seems to be trying to sell himself as the MMA equivalent) was a spectacular figure. I have no hesitation saying he was the greatest boxer so far IMO, but also still find his treatment of Joe Frazier repugnant to this day.

It's going to be a scar. Phone Post

Oh, and I would just like to add that JBJ being candid and honest about Machida and the money thing actually was one of the few things he has said since getting the belt that didn't rub me the wrong way. Phone Post

Joe, do you think this will change the way the UFC plan cards by not putting all their eggs in one basket?

Jones is in awesome company: LeBron James, Usain Bolt, Carmelo Anthony, A-Rod, Michael Vick, Jenebah Tarmoh etc. etc. etc. The haters seem to direct their envy to our most gifted athletes. Self-hate is a mutherfucker ain't it?

Philippians 4:13 ALL DAY.
