I wanted to bring it to your attention what happened to me today. I am fighting MMA (ammy) tomorrow night. Or at least was supposed to. The event is Power Fights 31. Weigh-ins were tonight (I made weight; no problems). I show up and the promoter tells me that my opponent is out. The story from the promoter is this;

- my opponent contacted him a few hours earlier saying he didn't wanna fight.
- my opponent's walking weight was 136 lbs and my opponent didn't feel like he was "big enough" for bantamweight.
- my opponent wanted to fight at 125 lbs; he didn't cut down tho.

That pissed me off because for one, there was an agreed upon weight which was known a month prior to the fight. Second off, he should have contacted the promotion at least a few days ahead of time so that way they could have found me a different opponent. Also my opponent has had previous fights at 145 lbs and has never made 125 lbs.

So because of his bullshit, I don't have an opponent tomorrow night. I am still going there tomorrow and the promoter said he'll try to find a last-minute replacement *fingers crossed*. I just wanna bang bro. Know what I'm saying? The promoter and promotion is very good but it's just this fighter was very unprofessional and now I am stuck in a shitty situation. Fighter's name and stuff will be posted below...

Nahh fuck that. I wanna fight on this card! I sold tickets to all my friends, booked a hotel room for an afterparty (venue is a hotel), busted my ass to cut weight, busted my ass in training. I'm gonna show up and fight anyone they got around my weight. Will update the thread after.

Yeah, it's the nature of the beast. A friend had an Ammy fight a month ago and his opponent backed out... Along with over 30 backup fighters. Phone Post

The question is, why are you fighting for free? Ammy mma is a fraud, for suckers that fight for free.

I just spent 10 minutes trying to find him on facebook. No luck. Sorry, I was going to ask him for some tips on tucking.

Good, don't fight for free, MMA aint boxing, a few losses wont tarnish your career, if that's what you're trying to make of this.

Or are there different rules for amateur fighters in your area?

Nope but it's a good idea to have ammy experience before going pro.

I think he's trying to ask if amateur fights are required to go pro in my area. And no, they are not. I could go pro right now if I wanted to. But I want to fight amateur this year then turn pro next year.
