"Oh wow, Chael getting torn apart by an A level opponent in a weight class he doesnt belong in. Making 3x what someone who gives their all in every showing and would DIE in the ring does."

Say what you want, but Chael was willing to throw down on the event the very day of the fight should Vitor have pulled out of the fight. He might have been juiced to the tits, but he still stepped up.

HELWIG -

Heres something for the "newer casual" fans to ponder:

Imagine for a moment that you've been following MMA religiously since the mid 90s.

You dont watch any other sports. Not even the Superbowl or other major popular events. You love MMA.

While it faced it's exodus and was off of almost all PPV carriers, you networked daily with other fans, discussing upcoming events and fighters on the rise.

You kept an extensive library of tapes which youd trade with others, not to violate copyrights, but to literally keep the sport alive.

Now finally, a company comes in to breathe new life into the sport. And you couldnt be more excited!

They have a shy, mousy guy as the president. And he seems very humble and dedicated to growing the sport itself to where you feel it should have been all along.

But then, things takes a strange turn.

Instead of focusing on showing people how unique and amazing the athletes and the competition is, they decide to put all their effort into chasing the scumbag demographic.

The league is re-branded as a "beer and boobs" spectacle that favors promoting individuals that appear to be unable to have functioned in any other role in society. Tattoos, dyed hair, and one's nationality, become more important than records or ability.

And most troubling of all, none of the champions are presented as superstars, merely as transitional pieces of property owned by the company.

Rather, the childhood friend of the owners, is presented as a larger than life caricature, despite having no connection whatsoever to actually fighting in a cage himself.

Yet you continue to watch and support the sport. You still love the fighters and the fighting. But youre really confused and displeased that someone who's on a 25 fight win streak is making 20k to fight on national ppv television, while somone who is routinely finished in the first round is making 800k because he runs his mouth before matches. Oh and the figurehead president bets 20k per hand of blackjack, which you know because weekly video blogs are put up to keep people up to date on how awesome he is.

At a certain point the sport becomes corrupted and poisoned.

Nobody stood in line for hours to watch California's best throw down in the pouring rain so two rich heirs and their goofball buddy from school could get even richer.

Nobody got stictched up in a kitchen in a foreign country between rounds of a tournament so a wannabe could put himself on the cover of magazines dedicated to the athletes of MMA.

Nobody invited all their friends over month after month and endured their dumb comments during events so the best fighters on the planet could have their accomplishments belittled by a bitter rival promoter.

Its really just gotten stale. It boggles my mind that the excitement could have died down the way it has.

I was sooooooooooooooooooooo amped up in around 2007 or so for the UFC and Pride events going on.

Now?

Oh wow, another random card with maybe 2 relevant fights to the bigger picture of a division.

Oh wow, another female fight that nobody asked for, taking up a spot on the card.

Oh wow, Chael getting torn apart by an A level opponent in a weight class he doesnt belong in. Making 3x what someone who gives their all in every showing and would DIE in the ring does.

Oh wow, heres Dana acting petty and jealous of the status of actual fighters. Drunk on his sense of perceived power over them.

Whats the point?

Can you, "newer casual" fans imagine what this all is like?

Do you believe me that there was a time where the sport was "MMA", and not "Dana White UFC"?

Its a tragedy.

Amazing post. Have a VU. Phone Post 3.0

Reggie,

I agree with that, Zuffa might be a privately owned  large corporation, but its ran like a mom & pop business. Only in a mom & pop business does someone talk mad shit like that. I do like Dana, the personality, but he does talk stupid shit, The match making sometimes doesnt make sense, I agree with pushing some fighters who promote better than others, but they should climb the ranks like the ones who arent as charismatic on the mic. I dont care they signed CM Punk, I think it will be good for the sport as far as bringing more eyes to the sport. I even like the occasional  circus freak fight. sometimes, but not all the time. If they want this to be a seriously legit sport they would have a bracket system this way we know who is where on it and who should be next for the title shot.

Dana, should stop fighter bashing, fighters inside and outside of the organization. Also, fighters should be paid way way more. If UFC 182 did 820,000 buys for lets say $65.00 a pop thats 53,300,000 in revenue... I know to put on the shows it costs money but come on man... fighters that should at least make $100,000.00 a year  starting out and move up to Anderson Silva money when they progress to that level. Also, fighters should have a publicist  assigned to them for damage control, and to work with them on mic skills if they want to get up to that kind of pay scale. UFC needs to build stars, not Dana White, its about the fighters, not Dana.... I actually like Dana a lot too but this is the truth. Also, enough with the snow in the drive way dana, you have fighters like pat barry back in the day living off of ketchup packets.. man.. thats fucked... he really is the WHITE Don King!!!

I think Jones Haters are pathetic, and there obsession goes lower then they ever imagined sometimes.

- I have seen fightmetric get bashed and accused of increasing his numbers

- I have seen Luke Thomas under assualt bc of few favorable Jones articles

- its Danas turn for simple givin a guy whos down a hand.

- The Judges were under fire because they judged correct against Jones rival Gus and that fight was never a robbery but made into a robbery fight or forced to become one and not to forget Dana white himself was under fire as well for saying he agreed with the judges(Just his opinion)

- The Media judged the fight just like the judges did and they came under fire and labelled UFC media shills.

I have all of these things on paper and well documented but I came to this conclusion - Its basically A obsessive crusade against Jones.

lmao at documenting this shit so you can defend jbj or point fingers at ug members.

get a life...smh

See? This is why you can't take any one serious here on the UG. Those numbers you cited? Half of that 53 million automatically goes to the PPV providers. Therefore any number you see, which is never official, just always someones assumption, are always skewed to make it seem like the UFC are slave drivers. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this sport is young. You cannont compare what these fighters make to what Boxers, MLB, NFL, or any other sport stars make, as the UFC is still in its infancy. These Reebok and FOX deals will push them into the realm of the big leagues, but that takes time and effort, expansion and such. Give it time and ignore any number you see thrown around as if it's official.

Sorry dude, my response wasn't meant to be directed at you, more of a way to take what you said and attempt to set the numbers thing straight. No so hard feelings, though I should have made that clear at the onset.

As for downvoting you? Funny you should mention it. I don't downvote people. People are entitled to their opinions and opinions can be neither true nor false. Now for the funny part, when I went to hit the "Quote" button, in my haste to do so, I ended up downvoting you. So, yes, I did DV you, just not when you thought I did, and I apologize for doing so just a minute ago. Apologies and such... Ahahaha

I sent him a pep up speech and he probably didnt like it too much.. LOL, so i figure it was him seeing I went back and traced everything I posted in and that one makes the most logical sense to me that it was him...
