Maybe im jaded but Im just not impressed. Thats not to say that guys not a bjj wiz or to take anything away from him.

Maybe you could post a vid of him doing some half assed chins with your lips suction cupped to his asshole or something.

That'd impress the hell outta me.

I was going to delete pretty much the whole thread until i read this:

"ive been trolling forums since before your balls dropped...your approach is just weak"

Maybe there is some redeeming value here.

Plus i only posted so i can get someone to figure out how many times i post a day!!

gusto - gi pullups are hard enough. i can do a few pull ups with that much weight attached. doing it with a gi for reps is another story

Does hanging on a gi make it that much harder? If your grip is strong, I don't think it would make much difference and the narrow grip may even make it easier

i found an old judo belt but i haven't got anything weighing 60lbs that i can hang off me. i'll have to try it at the gym

that said, i tried bodyweight and although the grip was a little awkward, it wasn't too bad - the belt is pretty thin but the pull itself was easier. I think a gi would be easier still, as there is more material to grab hold of

RJ1581 - turducken and Leigh, a couple of trolls....obviously you 2 morons are either associated with an inferior gym or you simply can't respect quality when you see it. turducken, 4422 posts in 1 year??? that's an average of over 12 posts a day! You are way more pathetic than Leigh!!! You girls are too funny!!

And I wonder why I don't post here that often anymore...

I gotta try this... The grip portion of it i could handle easily (i've always had a good grip), but with 60 lbs on me, and being considerably larger than Torres, i def could not do the number of half pullups he does. If i trimmed myself down to that bf% and relativized the weight then maybe...

Leigh,

Your right. That position (arms in a closer to the front, neutral grip) is a very strong position to pull from. Obviously the gripping of the Gi makes it a lot tougher, as well as the extra weight. Still, There are a lot of guys out there who can knock off weighted chins.

try actually using a gi. not just a thin strap and it will burn your hands much worse.

Well done Leigh. And with a belt, holy shit. Now THAT'S impressive. Try doubling up the belt, at least to get it closer to a gi. How much do you weigh Leigh?

I tried a few today at the end of a tough workout with a gi, and they werent so bad. Let me lose about 40 lbs and add 60 back with a weight and I'm fairly confident i could come close :)

"yeah i reckon that's decent and actually use it as a bench mark. if you can't do that, you need to work your pulling strength"

I hope you mean your own bodyweight + 50% on a belt. That's definitely decent - pretty good. Your own bodyweight + another 150% on a belt is freaking outstanding.

BryanH - RJ 1581, obviously your boy is strong, but your coming on this forum as a newb disrespecting guys like taku and leigh etc who contribute greatly here on a weekly basis, and would go out of their way to give you solid advice if you ever needed it...

Taku is a respected S&C coach having made programs for the Straight Blast Gym and Leigh Remedios was a pioneer of this sport when you were a stain on your daddy's pants.

what's your point? That they are old? See there is this thing called evolution....the argument of "we've been doing this when you were a fetus" holds no grounds to me....Renzo Gracie said it about BJ Penn, then preceded to get his ass handed to him by Penn...Bryan, for you to say I am the disrespectful one is pure ignorance....Taku came out saying the vid is weak, and Leigh posts a vid of him doing pullups on a thin strap and not a gi where the lapel is thicker and burns the hands a great deal more...not only that but Leigh looks like he is a shredded 140 pounds soaking wet....JT at the time that vid was made was 175 pounds.

Leigh - i reckon it will be even easier

It's actually not....we've done all different types....plain towel pullups, belt pullups like you did, pullups from the sleeves of the gi, and pullups from the lapel.....something about the lapel digs into the fingertips so it's not so much the squeezing strength, but focuses more on pinching as well as squeezing...it's pretty unpleasant.

Hey Doug

I'm about 155 at the moment or a little over

I'm not trying to impress anyone, just having a go cos of the discussion. I'm not interested in trying it with a gi - if a belt is easier and being lighter makes it easier, then the gi will probably be the wrong brand or the gravity must different in the UK

You have to take in to account that I'm old and haven't evolved

Goddamn... beast. Did you take that with your phone? I need to look into that... Although doing the same at 210 is a little less impressive perhaps... no fucking way can i do it with a belt not looped to make it thicker.

He's right Doug, you have to take his age into account.

RJ1581, Please show me where I said that anything or anyone was "weak". (Good Luck doing so)

If you train combat athletes who use a Gi, than using a Gi to do pull-ups is pretty standard. It is a great tool, but certainly not new or ground breaking in anyway.

As folks here know I have women clients who can knock out sets of 25 pull-ups up to 10 times per day. I know, I know that is not the same as a Gi pull-up.

Any-way...If you are proud of his accomplishments that is great. Anyone who trains hard and is willing to do the work, should be proud of their efforts.

Why you are so easily triggered by passing comments made by folks on an internet forum is beyond me. It seems a bit silly to take all of this so personally. People have a right to their opinions. If you felt people were not showing the proper respect to your post, there are better ways to get it than to call people morons etc.

PAU for NOW
