No one comes on this site first day and buys a blue name. They sign up, test the waters and if they like the community they upgrade to a blue name. Sadly I wont be doing that.
All you 01'rs would love to run a private club, but guess what, Kirik wouldn't be able to pay the server bills off of just you people posting. His company needs new sign ups and new ad viewers to keep turning a profit. But some how his mods perpetuate an environment that drives off new customers.
I've never seen a for profit company throw so much money down the drain. I wonder how many people have been attacked for join dates to leave the site and never be turned over into a paying customer on top of lost ad revenue.

Normally, veterans of the forum keep certain traditions close to the vest, mostly to preserve the character of the community. However, I have broken ranks and created a welcome guide to help the uninitiated. Several years ago, UG member Stacks did the same. He has hardly been seen since, so I expect this to be one of my last posts before the ninjas show up.

Seriously, people don't get shit 'for their join dates'. They get shit for saying stupid shit.
I'm originally a 10'er, not once did I get any hassle for being a 10'er, a few times I got hassle for saying something stupid and was called a stupid 10'er. But that is the same as when I'm getting called a fat bastard by friends. It isn't because I'm fat (which I definitely am) it is because I'm a bastard.

I agree. But its a Catch-22. Cater to newbies, forum becomes Wild West - and possibly loses credibility. Cater to OGs, forum becomes Clique-ish - and sends the wrong message to people with money in their pockets.
I get your point, but if you haven't been run off yet, I can guarantee you that members will try to after this post. You see, they really don't care. Kirik and the mods may care, but I promise you, "most" of those guys with '01-04 join dates don't. They don't pay the server bill. They don't worry about Click-thrus on ads. They expect someone to find a way for the site to survive, not thrive. They abhor growth means "new".

We westerners pack our kids off to school, huddle in our cubicles and "haze each other" on the interwebs. We are the first generation of mankind that can communicate with anyone on the intire planet in less than a few seconds - as we trick it off.
