I'm home in NYC, (semi)-snowed in 'til after Christmas. Just Judged the UFC in Memphis. Any questions for your ol' Uncle D, guys? Ask away. And best to all...-Douglas Crosby, MMA/UFC Judging Genius-in-Residence

Do you know if any judges scored any of the BJ/Diego rounds 10-8 or 10-7?

Ryase - Do you hate Cecil Peoples? If you don't respond to my post I'll take that as a yes.

I read the thread title and assumed it was about Cecil.

I think it's pretty obvious that within the next year there is going to be commission meetings about current MMA judging criteria. Rather than our current 3 point must scoring system, what alternate system would you most likely want to see discussed for implementation? Does alternative scoring systems even exist yet? Would something new have to be created?

What director would you most want to work with again?

That would of course be Darren Aronofsky, and I am working with him again right now on "Black Swan' here in NYC. THAT guy IS a genius (I pretend to be for laughs).

Also working w/another very cool Director right now named Malcolm Venville on a film called "Henry's Crime" starring Keanu Reeves, the fantastic Vera Farmigia, and those two friggin' MASTER character actors James Caan & Bill Duke, and some other great younger character actors too (Fisher Stevens & Peter Stormare) You may see some folks you...recognize...that Uncle D put into one of the fight scenes in a prison.......

How does one who has a good knowledge of MMA get themselves into a position where they can become a State licensed judge?

I did Judge the Penn/Sanchez fight. I'll tell you how I scored it, and why, in a little while. The dogs are whining like maniacs, so Uncle D's on his way out into the snow. Be back in 30 mins OK? Check back. I'll really give you a comprehensive answer on that. DC

I am referring your questions to my IT Dept. Since they are currently consulting on the construction of the SuperCollider in Switzerland right now, it may be awhile before they get back to me, and, by extension, me to you. Until then please enjoy the brilliant repartee' and inane banter which co-define my threads. DC/NYC

What state do you live in? Does your state have MMA fights? If so there is probably a Commission or Governing body that oversees MMA fights. Contact them and get an application, fill it in honestly, and let them know you are knowledgeable, sincere, passionate, and willing to work your way in/up. Best of luck, and keep me apprised of your progress! DC

The Messiah - next time you judge a fight after you write down your scores under it write Fuck the UG.

See if Buffer gets duped into saying it

Now THAT, young man, is the kind of innovative thinking I admire. That was a QUALITY idea. That was ART. You were probably just like I was in High school(s). Bless ya. Oh and can I wish you a pre-emptive "happy birthday" for Friday?

What do you think about the half-point scoring revisions devised by Nelson Hamilton and Dave Meltzer?

Inspired by Uncle D, I have just released a fluttering email in the direction of my local boxing commission.

DC is unsettling because he comes across like one of us- and we have no business judging fights...

>Speaking for myself,

I don't need half-points, or quarter-points, or more points, or less points, to render an accurate score based on my observations. I don't think the sport, the fighters, or the fans NEED it. I don't think it will make bad Judges better if you give them something more complicated to work with. If you can't fly a balsa-wood hobby-store rubber-band propeller-plane, should your bosses put you in the cockpit of an F-15? How does it help you to be exposed to, and at the mercy of, a complex system, if you can't administrate a simple system? I could render an accurate score with ANY system; PRIDE-style, half-points, whatever. I don't NEED it. Neither do YOU. I work in the film business, and very often I see people over-complicate things until they lose themselves in the PROCESS, and the objective becomes a casualty. GOOD JUDGES TURN IN GOOD SCORES. It really is that simple; and simplification is something I really have come to appreciate...I admire people who devise elegant, simple solutions to complex problems.

Being LIKE you, and OF you, is something I'm proud of. It's your passion, (and your $), that keep the lights on @ the UFC, and the food on the fighter's tables. Thanks.
